This week I researched Chinese immigration to Japan. I learned that the rate of Chinese people has increased rapidly since around 1990 as you can see the graph below. The reason is thought that the economy developed with the bubble economy and the Japanese government established an amendment policy, "出入国管理及び難民認定法" in 1989. This data is from "日本の外国人労働者受け入れ政策". Also according to Ministry of Justice, the number of Chinese immigrants was 674,879, which was 10 times as many Chinese as in 1984. I found out that these Chinese people are mostly coming as students or technical interns. Even though Japan has accepted foreigners more than before, the present age is still only less than 1 percent in the total population.
Population of Chinese
I was able to research Chinese immigration and understand the basic information, so I want to focus on the country. I wonder why Chinese people are coming to Japan not as workers, but as students or technical interns. I would like to understand deeply what rules and policies were established by the government so far such as "出入国管理及び難民認定法". In addition, I want to look at good points and bad points on policies by standing different positions such as Japanese and Chinese, employers and employees, government and companies. This week I was able to read several articles so as not to have a biased view and I could found why the rate of Chinese people are increasing. Next week I want to find the issues of the government policies and accepting Chinese through standing different positions and sectors.
