I tried to contact with Ms. Sayre Midori, who is a principal of Amerasian School in Okinawa, but I cannot receive reply from her. So I gave up interviewing to her. And next, I tried to contact Professor Murakami, who is a Chuo University Professor and specializes in American culture. But I failed in contacting her. Finally, I succeeded in interviewing to Maki Nakamatsu, who is a student in Chuo University and is a returnee. She grew up in Netherland when she was just before entered elementary school. I asked some questions: Did you feel cultural gaps? And she answered “there are little troubles, but I didn’t know Japanese popular song which most Japanese know.” And also, she didn’t know Japanese play with hands. At the time, she wondered why Japanese children play alone with one friend. She felt cultural gap. The problem is her look like is same as Japanese, so other students didn’t realize that she is a returnee. Moreover, she didn’t understand that I am a returnee yet. But she entered junior high school, she can understand that, and she tells that she is a returnee to her friends. And she solved these gaps by herself. I learned that if there is no difference of look like, there are various gaps.
