K-5 Standards-Based Report Cards
The primary purpose of using standards-based report cards is to offer a clear representation of a student’s academic performance against a predefined set of standards. These standards outline what a student should know and be able to do by the end of each grade level, per state mandated standards of learning.
Instead of assigning a numeric grade to a subject, each standard is assessed individually. This provides a more precise picture of a student’s strengths and areas that need improvement.
Our current report card has been updated in grades K-5 for the 2024-25 school year, aligning with the new state standards and creating consistency across grade levels. With this change, we now are using new grade scales that are developmentally appropriate to each grade band, both lower and upper elementary.
Parent Resources
What should my child know by the end of the school year? There are many, many standards that need to be covered each year, in each grade. The standards-based report card prioritizes the most important standards (major standards) for each grade level.
The Standards-Based Report Card Committee worked collaboratively with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to create a “quick reference guide” for families that details what children should know in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. This will be shared with parents at conferences each November. Below, please find links to all of the K-5 quick reference guides.
