During the course of a student’s education, they may be tested based on a teacher recommendation, district data sweep, or parent appeal. If a student is not found eligible for the Gifted Education Program, should they fall into one of the aforementioned categories, a student may only be formally tested one additional time, for a maximum of two times during their Fair Haven Public School District careers. In no case will a student be considered for a retest with the same test within 12 months since the last test administration due to testing practice effect.
Specific circumstances will override the 12 month testing period or the maximum of two testing times for the duration of a student’s educational career. They are listed below:
12 Month Exception: If a student is tested in 3rd grade, they can be retested in 4th grade, as the tests are different. If a student is tested in both 3rd and 4th grade, they will have reached their maximum testing allotment.
While students will only be formally tested two times, families may appeal based on the other data scores, which change year to year. The Gifted Education Committee will review the new data, in conjunction with prior norm-referenced testing, and will use the predetermined cut scores to identify if a student would qualify for the program at the time of the appeal.
