Video Link to Introduction - START HERE
For your first build, create the hopper legs as shown in this picture.
This is your starting point.
You will need to watch how your hopper performs with these legs to start thinking about how to improve its performance.
Next, you will build the grasshopper legs and compare them to your original hopper before moving on to your own designs.
Grasshopper Legs : Follow steps 16-21 if you are NOT using a base build robot.
If you are using a bot that is the base build that we have been using for missions on the challenge board, you will follow different directions - use the photo below after removing the wheel.
To build the grasshopper leg, you will need the pieces shown on the left for EACH side.
Before telling your robot to move, set the legs so that they are positioned opposite each other. So, if the leg on one side looks like the one in the picture to the left, rotate the motor wheel on the opposite side 180 degrees so that the hole with the black axel running through it is in the position closest to the front of the bot.
Grasshopper leg motion looks like this - see video.
Now for Gear Ratios.
We will go back to using wheels for this.
Look through the slide deck to the right. The videos in it are no longer available for viewing, but you will be able to see how to create a gear ratio and see what the different types of ratios can do.
