Getting Started
These will be your first set of simple programs that you will write for credit. In order to receive credit, you will need to RENAME the following programs according to the instructions below and then show me your robot executing the program:
Motors and Sensors: show the motor rotating using the touch sensor
Motors and Sensors: show the motor rotating using the light sensor
Get Moving: show robot moving forward, backward and then forward again.
Continue through the steps below to learn how to use these programs.
NOTE!! - Do not use Bluetooth. Instead, when the "connect via Bluetooth" page comes up, go to the upper, right and select the choice to CONNECT VIA USB CABLE.
NOTE!! - When using pink MOVEMENT blocks, the default motors are B and C
Learning the Basics of Programming
To learn some basic programming, you will choose number 1 "Hello World" from the start page. This will automatically continue into number 2 and 3, so you will do all of them.
Do NOT ask the teacher what to do. Read the instructions you see here as you follow the tutorial.
Be very careful when inserting the battery. If it does not go in smoothly and easily STOP! and ask for help.
You will be asked to connect your brick. You will do this with the USB cable that I give you. The cable will stay at your workstation. Don't put it in your kit or disconnect it when you are done. Leave it for the next person to use.
For "Hello World", you will drag programming blocks into place, but you will need to RENAME your program first, so don't download it just yet.
See renaming instructions below!
Properly NAME your programs
Follow these instructions for renaming your program. You will not receive credit for programs that are not properly named.
All programs will keep the SAME NAME as the original program with the addition of your period number and robot number IN FRONT OF THE NAME.
Example: If you want credit for the program "Hello World" , and you are in period 5 using robot 11, your program name should be:
P5R11 Hello World
As you work through the different tutorials, you will be asked to attach different motors and sensors to your brick. Notice that the particular PORT on the brick is indicated in the programming block.
If the programming block shows "C" then the brick will send a command to port C. If there is a motor attached to port C, then it will execute the command. If there is no motor, nothing will happen.
Note: motors are only connected to ports with letters, sensors connect to ports with numbers.
Ports and Motors
You will work all the way through the "Get Moving" program. Be sure to rename ALL programs before downloading. You will need to show me your programs for credit, and they will not be counted if they are not properly named.
This is the end of the "Getting Started". If you are finished and I have checked all your programs. You may try making some modifications to your existing programs to see what you can get your robot to do.
This link will take you to a page that describes the main programming blocks you used in the "Getting Started" section.
This link will take you to a page that shows how to delete extra programs from your computer.
NOTE! If you delete them from the computer, they are gone forever. You cannot get them back from the brick tot he computer, so be sure you want to delete them.
