Lesson 7 of 8
Activity 1
I am going to learn about tangrams and create shapes with them.
A tangram is a dissection puzzle consisting of a square cut into 7 shapes that can arranged into various shapes.
Read this story:
It was a bright, sunny morning in the forest, and the animals decided it was the perfect day for fun. Ruby Robin sang a cheerful song as she fluttered from branch to branch. Her sweet notes drifted through the trees, calling her friends to come play. Soon, Randy Raccoon came along with his drum made from an old hollow log. “Let’s make some music!” he cheered, tapping out a bouncy rhythm. The forest filled with laughter as the animals clapped and danced to the beat.
Rachel Rabbit hopped into the clearing with a big smile. She was carrying a special box full of colorful tangram pieces—triangles, squares, and parallelograms. “I’ve got a game we can play!” she announced. “We’re going to use these shapes to make pictures.” The other animals crowded around curiously. “Watch,” Rachel said as she placed the pieces down. Carefully, she slid the shapes together until a dinosaur appeared. “Wow!” gasped Ruby. “It looks just like a dinosaur!”
The fun continued as Rachel made more creations. “Here’s a fish swimming in the pond,” she said, arranging triangles to look like fins. Randy tapped his drum like splashing water, and Ruby chirped like bubbles rising. Next, Rachel built a boat with the tangram shapes. “We could sail away!” she laughed. Ruby flapped her wings as if she were the wind pushing the boat forward. Randy pretended to paddle with a stick he found nearby. Everyone was giggling and joining in.
