LOGICAL THINKING - Grade 1

Lesson 3 of 8

Activity 1

Today you will learn how to brainstorm.  Listen to this story:

Detective Daisy and the Bubble Mystery

One sunny morning, Detective Daisy Duck was enjoying a peaceful walk through the meadow when she heard a tiny voice calling out.

“Detective Daisy! I need your help!” squeaked a little spider dangling from a leaf.

Daisy looked up. “Hello there! What seems to be the problem?”

“I found this strange thing,” said Cindy the spider, pointing to a shiny, round object on the ground. “I don't know what it is!”

Just then, Sammy Squirrel scampered over. “Hi, friends! What's going on?”

“We're trying to figure out what this object is,” explained Daisy.  "We are thinking about new and different ways we could use this object.  That is called brainstorming."

Sammy picked it up and examined it. “Hmm, it's round and has a hole in the middle.”

The three friends put their heads together and thought hard.

“Maybe it's a tiny crown for a mouse or a tree ornament?” suggested Cindy the spider.

“Or a wheel for a toy car or possibly a hula hoop,” offered Sammy.

Daisy pondered for a moment. “Wait a minute! I think I have an idea.”

She led her friends to a nearby puddle, dipped the object into the water, and blew through the hole.

POP!

A beautiful bubble floated into the sky!

“It's a bubble blower!” cheered Daisy.

The friends laughed and took turns blowing bubbles, watching them shimmer in the sunlight.

From that day on, they kept the bubble blower safe, ready for more bubbly adventures.

When brainstorming, there are many acceptable answers.

Seeing things in different ways is important.

Changing an idea into something else is encouraged.

Only say nice things about others' ideas.
