Capstone Project Guidelines

For this class one requirement is a final project in Design or Robotics. Those projects can take many forms but this is a place where students can choose how they want to explore the outcomes in the course.

Some exemplary projects in the past have included:

  • The video game cabinet projects (groups worked on design, construction, programming, CNC milling)

  • Replace an RC car's electronics with a phone controlled Bluetooth controller.

  • Decode the IR frequencies on the projectors and speakers in the school and create an Arduino remote for them.

  • Students who are a part of either the school FTC or FRC teams often use those builds as their final project.

  • Students who do not choose a unique final project will be asked to create an alternate, pre determined, final project.

Other final projects can include

  • A deep dive on 3D Printing - write a guide on how to maintain the machine and print some cool devices.

  • CNC Milling - Learn how to use the Larken CNC mill and write a guide on how to operate that piece of machinery.

  • PC Component design and production.

Project Process and Requirements

For this project you must begin with a simple proposal. That proposal must be submitted to your teacher.

It must include the following:

  • What is the problem that you are trying to solve or the product you are trying to create.

  • What skills do you already have to complete this project?

  • What skills do you need to develop to complete this project?

  • What machines will you need to access for this project?

  • What other materials will you need to use for this project?
