All STARRS teachers receiving a Targeted Financial Incentive (TFI) will be supported by the Department to undertake additional professional development, that they identify as appropriate to increase job satisfaction and career development.
Grants of $5,560 per teacher a year for two years, including 5 days of time release ($11,120 per teacher over 2 years) will be provided to support the cost of professional development programs, travel and time release.
The selected professional development should be practice that is embedded and collaborative. This would mean that other teachers within your school community also benefit from the learning and it enables the teacher to develop deeper connections within the school community.
This funding would enable participants to undertake the equivalent of one university subject per year, with five days of time release. Alternatively, teachers may identify suitable programs offered by the Department’s Professional Learning Catalogue, Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership, VIT endorsed programs for qualified teachers or other approved programs. See the Professional Development Guidelines 2020 for more detailed information.
It would be beneficial for you to have a conversation with your Principal regarding your development including the goals and targets identified within your Professional Development Plan (PDP) which should directly align to your school's Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) and School Strategic Plan (SSP).
To best meet the needs of participants, teachers are asked to complete a Needs Analysis survey. (Click here to access the survey). This should take no more than 10 minutes and will provide the STARRS team and Local Coordinators with information regarding teachers’ collective and individual professional learning needs. This information will be used to design the Workshop sessions and ongoing professional learning that your Local Coordinator will provide through the year.
Your first step is to complete the Professional Learning Budget Plan located on page 5 of the Professional Development Guidelines 2020. This must be approved by your principal prior to using any Professional Development funding. Please complete this as soon as possible to ensure you get the maximum benefit from your grant. Any additions or changes to this plan must be made in writing to the principal in a timely manner.
Please use the templates provided on pages 4-7 for all reporting and submit signed documentation by email to: teacher.incentive.program@edumail.vic.gov.au by the appropriate due dates. You will also need to provide a copy of page 6 to your Business Manager so that they can submit this via the STFG portal to access the reimbursement.
