After a busy start to the term, we continued to ‘Celebrate’ with our community last week with our ‘Donuts with Dads’ morning. I would like to thank every father, grandfather and carer that turned up as it was amazing to see so many loved ones wearing their jerseys and spending time with their child. Throughout the morning, we served 1000 donuts in just 45 minutes and witnessed some incredible sporting skills. It was great to see so many fathers that value their child’s education at Jasper Rd.
Parent Workshop
Thank you to the parents that attended our Maths session on Monday afternoon. It was a great session filled with tips and tricks and parent helpers. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide the presentation as all our sessions are ‘hands on’.
Our last session of the year will be held on Wednesday 22 October from 8am in the hall. At this session we will be diving into Writing. We will be looking at how to extend texts, sentence structure and sharing tips and tricks for helping at home.
Principal for the Day
Last Wednesday our two school captains had the chance to go ‘behind the scenes’ and become Principals for the Day. They witnessed firsthand, the everyday school life of our students, teachers, DPs and myself. Their report is below:
‘Our day started off with a trip down to the P&C's Father’s Day stall. We checked on the status of the volunteers and how they were doing with the setup. We then walked around the school to check on some of our classrooms. We saw some great lessons happening with Year 2, Year 5 and 6 and some Kindy classrooms.
This was followed by a Kindy Orientation meeting.
Next up...a finance meeting. We learnt about the schools budgeting system and how it is kept in check (sadly, we cannot say anymore on this as that information is classified). After a short recess, I went with Mrs Rogers to do a routine check for electrical and chemical hazards while Mr Warner, Miss Dunscombe and Hajin inspected the outside areas of the school for other hazards.
Next, we had a very nice chat with our teachers in the staff room. We spoke about our school and asked the teachers to make suggestions on how we could make our school better so we could take these to Mr Warner. The suggestions ranged from improvements to classrooms to changes to outdoor areas of the school.
Finally in the afternoon session, we met with Mr Warner to talk about the suggestions. We talked about installing bike shelters, re-modelling a playground and bullying just to name a few. We also talked about the academic aspects of our school and how we can improve the way our students learn about different subjects.
We ended the day with a farewell to our support unit students.
For both of us, besides giving all the teachers in the school pay rises, it was a really fun experience. We witnessed how our staff give up their time to make sure our school is as safe as it can be every day.
Overall, and on behalf of the students, Hajin and I would like to thank all of our teachers and Jasper Road staff for their hard work and dedication that they put in daily for our school.’
Warm regards, your captains
Adam Z and Hajin J
Check In Assessment
Over the next fortnight, Year 3, 4 and 5 and 6 students will continue to participate in a reading, numeracy and writing Check-in Assessment. The Check-in Assessment is a NSW Department of Education online assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning.
The Check-in Assessment data is quickly made available to schools, making the data timely and relevant. It is helpful to access such data as it assists in highlighting that we are moving in the right direction. As a school executive team, we take the time to carefully review our data, looking into both individual student and school strengths as well as areas for further development. This data is then used to make informed decisions about our future learning strategies and to reflect on structures and processes already in place, determining their effectiveness and viability. This careful analysis is also shared with our teachers to ensure we develop a common understanding and responsibility to delivering exceptional teaching and learning to the students of Jasper Road PS. Parents do not receive the results of this assessment.
Road Safety
Over the past fortnight we have noticed an increase in parents not using the crossing along Jasper Road. For your child’s safety, the pedestrian crossing should used at all times.
If picking your child up from their classroom and returning to a vehicle, the car park at Balcombe Heights Estate is encouraged rather than local streets. Walking is also a great idea. Walking to and from school is a great way to spend time with your child and encourage safe and healthy behaviours.
Craig Warner
Principal
3C and the International Joint Class
This year, several of our classes have been taking part in an exciting Joint International Class initiative with Joongdae Elementary School in Seoul, South Korea. These collaborative lessons connect students across borders through engaging activities linked to subjects such as science, history, and geography.
This fortnight, 3C participated in a cultural exchange lesson focused on building understanding through art and games. Students in both classrooms created traditional Korean fans. Mrs. Lee from Joongdae then introduced a popular Korean fan game, guiding both classes through the rules and strategies. The lesson concluded with students taking turns playing the game together via live video link, creating a fun and memorable shared experience.
Early Stage 1 - Kindergarten
Stage 1 - Years 1 & 2
Stage 2 - Year 3 & 4
Stage 3 - Years 5 & 6
Each fortnight we will send you instructions or a link to a "How to" guide from School Bytes. This fortnight is all about how to manage forms in the parent portal.
Lost Property
There is an overwhelming amount of lost property in the school. While Mr. Warner previously spoke to children during assemblies, please ensure all items include jumpers, hats, lunch boxes, plastic containers and water bottles are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Please feel free to have a look at our trolley located near office building opposite the library.
Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge closes next Friday! Please submit all reading logs for the challenge by 3pm Friday 19 September. Late submissions cannot be entered.
We now have 207 students who have successfully completed the challenge. Special mention to Ashvithra S who was our 200th student to complete the 2025 Reading Challenge. Well done to everyone and congratulations to the following students who have recently completed the challenge.

Welcome to spring. The weather is a bit warmer, and we are on our way to the end of the term. Time feels like it has sped up as we live in these days.
It was great to have a few parents drop in for a chat and a coffee last Tuesday and have useful conversations. The weather seems to have turned a little corner, so the sunshine was welcome.
Does your daughter or son take a long time to fall asleep?
I wonder what their bedtime routine is.
Maybe your child listens to music or reads a book. I wonder if that's when you snuggle in beside them and talk with them. Sometimes, it can be the most meaningful conversation you can have with them. Sometimes using a journal is a great way for your child to slow down their thoughts in their head. They can use it to write down three things they are thankful for, two things they are looking forward to and one word that describes how they feel. It could include some drawing time.
I have discovered some helpful tips for getting children to sleep. Please check it out, you might discover something useful.
Connect Four Game
This is a great way for young children to learn strategies about how to get four counters in a straight line, diagonally, horizontally or vertically. For them, working out how to make a straight line, and watching where the other person puts their counter. It’s a fantastic opportunity to just keep building on your relationship with your child, asking open questions, and when they tell you about something that has happened, ask them how they felt. Validating their feelings and listening to them is important; it can be how trust is built just by spending time with them in games.
SUPA Art Camp
In the coming holidays, I will be part of a team that is running an art camp, which is available to scripture students for two days. The Minecraft Camp is for Years 5-6 and should be a lot of fun.
So, if you have a Year 5 or 6 child in your house, they go to scripture, and they love being creative, please let them know.

We are so grateful for their dedication, care, and hard work – JRPS wouldn’t be the same without them! Take a moment to thank a member of our JRPS SASS and SLSO teams this week.

Canteen Payments
May we ask if you are paying cash for your child's order or sending spending money, where possible please send coins or smaller value notes. We have limited change available and struggle to change large notes of a morning.
Flexi Schools is a cashless option where canteen orders can be placed each day or even days/weeks in advance. This removes the worry of lost change or forgetting to hand in the order. Ordering can be done for any item on our menu including ice blocks.
If you have placed a recess order, please let your child/ren know to join the "Express Line" at the canteen to collect the order.
Lunch orders are delivered to the classroom, however, if you have ordered any of the following items, please ask your child/ren to collect them from the "Express Line" at the canteen:
Noodles
Ice Blocks
Jelly
Changes or Enquiries for Canteen Orders
Should you need to change or cancel your child's canteen order, we kindly request that instead of contacting the canteen or school directly, please reach out to our Healthy Canteens Office, where multiple staff members are available to assist you promptly. Contacting the school or canteen can disrupt lunch preparation and experience delays in communication.
Contact Details:
Office Phone: 02 9836 2270 or 0405 219 242
Timing: Please make any changes before 10:30 am.
SMS Service: You may also use our SMS service to cancel an order. Simply text us with the following details:
School Name
Child's Name & Class
We will process the cancellation and send you a confirmation SMS.
Important Note: We regret we are unable to hold orders. Instead, cancelled orders will result in funds returning to your FlexiSchools account. This policy ensures clarity, especially in cases of delayed student returns or changes in onsite staff.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. By following these guidelines, we aim to enhance efficiency and minimise disruptions for all involved parties. Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
