Term 3 Week 2 Newsletter
Friday 1 August 2025
Welcome back to Term 3. I hope all families had a safe and relaxing break. This term is already ramping up to be a busy one with Education Week and Book Week fast approaching.
PUBLIC EDUCATION WEEK
Next week we will be celebrating our students and incredible school during Public Education Week. This year our Open Day festivities will be held on Tuesday 5 August. All parents, carers and family members are invited to attend with a jam-packed morning of celebrations. This year’s theme is ‘Ignite Your Potential’.
During our roadshow and performances, we will be showcasing:
Stage 1 Choir, Stage 1 Dance, Support Unit Band, Stage 3 Choir, Stage 2 Dance, Djembe Drumming, Chess Club, Art Club, Metro/Rural Alliance, Aboriginal Education, Sport programs, Code Club, Arbors, High Potential Gifted Education, Games on the Grass, Lego Club, Korean Language, STEM links and Community Access programs.
JEANS FOR GENES
Did you know…1 in 20 kids face a birth defect or genetic disease, like cancer, cystic fibrosis, and life-threatening metabolic disorders. That's 12 kids born every minute worldwide.
On Wednesday, the SRC will be holding a fundraiser to support the Australian Medical Research Institute. All funds donated will support their efforts to help find treatments and cures, as well as purchase necessary medical equipment.
Students are encouraged to wear jeans to school and bring a gold coin donation. Students are asked to wear their sports polo and school jumper/jacket on top.
BAND BONANZA
On Thursday afternoon we will be holding our Band Bonanza. Our school bands along with the Hills Community Band and special guests will be playing on the night. All families and students are invited to attend. This is also a great opportunity for Year 2 students interested in joining our band next year to hear from our talented students and experience the different instruments available.
BOOK CHARACTER PARADE
STAFF TALENT
Last week on the first day of term, our talented staff were not only involved in meetings, planning and professional development, but they also completed a team building Graffiti Art workshop. Working in stages, staff had to plan, create and spray an artwork based around a word from our School Excellence Plan. The end results are incredible, and the teamwork shown throughout the afternoon was a highlight.
The completed artworks will be on display during Education Week.
NAPLAN
Last week, students in Years 3 and 5 should have received their NAPLAN individual student report.
In 2025, NAPLAN results are reported against proficiency standards, with student achievement shown against 4 levels of proficiency: Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs additional support. There is a standard for each assessment area at each year level.
When reading your child’s NAPLAN 2025 results please keep in mind:
New proficiency standards were introduced to NAPLAN reporting. This reporting replaces the previous numerical NAPLAN reporting bands and national minimum standards.
A performance result less than expected may indicate the student requires more targeted support or may just reflect other factors that affected their performance on that day.
Proficiency standards provide clear information on student achievement. They are set at a challenging but reasonable level expected for the child at the time of NAPLAN testing, based mainly on what has been taught in previous years of schooling.
Individual students may demonstrate different skills or understandings depending on which parts of the tests they performed more strongly in. Students whose results fall near the top of a proficiency level will be able to demonstrate more of the skills, or more complex understanding.
Students whose results fall near the lower end of a level will be able to demonstrate fewer of the skills, or less complex understanding.
It is important to remember NAPLAN tests are one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. They complement ongoing assessments so that teachers can best support teaching and learning. The achievement demonstrated in classroom-based assessments and reporting through A-E grades provide parents with timely feedback on how their child is progressing.
We encourage any parent or carer who is concerned about their child’s NAPLAN results to talk to your child’s teacher.
NETBALL NSW
Our incredibly popular after school netball program is returning later this term. Running each Monday afternoon immediately after school from Week 5, students will learn new skills and play games from expert coaches whilst also receiving a Netball NSW pack at the completion. Positions in this program always fill up very quickly.
NATIONALLY CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
year of schooling
category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive
This information assists schools to:
formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government's Privacy Policy.
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal.
KINDY ENROLMENT
Kindergarten enrolments for 2026 are now open! If you have a child or know of anyone living in the JRPS catchment area whose child turns 5 by July 31, 2026, please enrol sooner rather than later so that you receive all correspondence.
Use the following link to access the enrolment tab on our website for more information.
PHONICS ASSESSMENT
Phonics knowledge and skills are essential for learning to read and write. To be effective readers, students need to learn how to blend sounds together in words quickly so that they can read and understand the meaning. At Jasper Road we continue to have a strong Phonics program and results are outstanding.
Each year, all Year 1 students enrolled in a NSW Government school are assessed using a mandatory Screening Check. This quick assessment informs teachers how your child is progressing in phonics. At Jasper Road, this screening check will be completed one-on-one with all Year 1 students between 11 - 22 August.
GRADE DISTRIBUTION
Each year we provide parents the opportunity to view grade distributions from Semester 1 reports. No names are identifiable on these reports and students are not ‘ranked’. These are now available to be viewed at the front office. Copies are not available and we ask that no photos are taken.
DONUTS W/ DADS
KISS AND DROP
Student safety is a priority around the school and this includes before and after school in the Kiss and Drop area. Please be advised that Council rangers are regularly on-site. It is important that as a community we work together to ensure everyone’s safety.

Attendance
We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the attendance of our students. Last term we had 619 students attending school 90-100% of the term. For the year we have had 652 students attend school 90-100%. A special mention to the 98 students who have had 100% attendance for the year.
Regular attendance as mentioned in previous newsletters is important on many fronts. High attendance rates contribute to better educational outcomes and productive social skills.
We would like to thank our parents and guardians for their ongoing support in encouraging regular attendance.
100 days of Learning
On Wednesday Kinder celebrated 100 days of learning. Students and teachers alike came dressed up for the day, either looking like a 100-year-old or with outfits that represented 100 and everyone looked wonderful! The teachers planned a variety of activities to celebrate the day, from 100 exercises to decorating the word 100, a maths game: race to 100, stacking cups to 100, decorating their 100 days of learning crown and a parade. The students had a superb celebration.
Some photos of the day are below.
Each fortnight we will send you instructions or a link to a "How to" guide from School Bytes. This fortnight is all about how to view student documents or school resources.
Lost Property
There is an overwhelming amount of lost property in the school and we are only two weeks back. While Mr. Warner spoke to children during assemblies this fortnight, please ensure all items include jumpers, hats, lunch boxes, plastic containers and water bottles are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Please feel free to have a look at our trolley located near office building opposite the library.
We are now in the second half of the year. Cold mornings and nights with sunny afternoons. It’s a great time to go walking in the afternoons or on weekends when you can. I am sure life is busy for you, with all the activities going on in your family, sports, special events, celebrations and birthdays.
Two programs being used in the chaplaincy program are Brave, which is an online program that runs for over 6-8 weeks for children who suffer from anxiety. Brave looks at how anxiety affects the body, which can be different for all children, ways to relax and celebrate the victorious moments, and how different responses can be made to whatever is happening in their internal world. This is an online program made in Australia and lasts approximately 20 minutes.
A new program we are doing this term is Big Life Journal. It’s an A5 hard-covered journal that students can take home when they have finished it.
There are 10 chapters in total, which are divided into two parts. Some of the subjects are:
Mistakes help you grow
Challenges make you stronger
Be persistent
Be unique
Be you
Do you ever get stuck on ideas of what you can do with your children when you have a spare moment or a free afternoon on the weekend?
Raising children in Australia has some wonderful ideas for all sorts of activities that you can do with your children. It can be challenging to be doing the same thing each weekend. We know that children can say they are bored at times. On this website, it gives ideas with children with diverse abilities, emotions, food & cooking, imagination & make believe, out & about, sensory play and thinking brain games are just some of the activities that are mentioned.
Coffee with the Chaplain
Our 'Catch up with the Chaplain' session this term will be held on an afternoon in Week 6 being Tuesday 26 August between 2.30pm – 3pm outside the hall. Come and grab a coffee or a tea while you wait for your child to finish school.
Watch out for posters up around the school.
In Term 2, a group of 10 students in Year 2 were identified as displaying High Potential in writing. They participated in a program to complete the writing process and publish their own unique twist on a classic fairytale. With support and guidance from Ms O’Donoghue, the students planned their plot, wrote, edited and revised their stories. They were involved in the publishing process as well, using Canva to select illustrations to accompany their text. In Week 10, these students visited Kindergarten classrooms with their finished books, to read their stories aloud. Kindergarten enjoyed hearing the stories and imagining that with great perseverance they could create their own books in the future. Congratulations to the students involved.
PSSA
Premier’s Reading Challenge
We have now reached 164 students who have completed the challenge. We are getting closer to beating our record. Keep up all the fantastic work everyone. But don’t worry though, if you have not completed the challenge yet. It runs to the 22nd August. A huge congratulations to the following students.
Scholastic Book Fair
As part of our Education Week celebration, the library is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair. The doors burst open next week on Tuesday 5th August at 8am.
All students will have the opportunity to create a wishlist on Monday next week. Keep an eye out for your child’s wishlist and help to support our school.

Canteen Payments
May we ask if you are paying cash for your child's order or sending spending money, where possible please send coins or smaller value notes. We have limited change available and struggle to change large notes of a morning.
Flexi Schools is a cashless option where canteen orders can be placed each day or even days/weeks in advance. This removes the worry of lost change or forgetting to hand in the order. Ordering can be done for any item on our menu including ice blocks.
If you have placed a recess order, please let your child/ren know to join the "Express Line" at the canteen to collect the order.
Lunch orders are delivered to the classroom, however, if you have ordered any of the following items, please ask your child/ren to collect them from the "Express Line" at the canteen:
Noodles
Ice Blocks
Jelly
Changes or Enquiries for Canteen Orders
Should you need to change or cancel your child's canteen order, we kindly request that instead of contacting the canteen or school directly, please reach out to our Healthy Canteens Office, where multiple staff members are available to assist you promptly. Contacting the school or canteen can disrupt lunch preparation and experience delays in communication.

Office Phone: 02 9836 2270 or 0405 219 242
Timing: Please make any changes before 10:30 am.
SMS Service: You may also use our SMS service to cancel an order. Simply text us with the following details:

Child's Name & Class
We will process the cancellation and send you a confirmation SMS.
Important Note: We regret we are unable to hold orders. Instead, cancelled orders will result in funds returning to your FlexiSchools account. This policy ensures clarity, especially in cases of delayed student returns or changes in onsite staff.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. By following these guidelines, we aim to enhance efficiency and minimise disruptions for all involved parties. Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
