Congratulations to Year 3 and Year 5 students that completed NAPLAN over the past fortnight. All students completed four assessments in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. The results of the assessments provide information for students, parents, teachers and principals which can be used to improve student achievement.
PARENT WORKSHOP
We are only a little over a week away from our first and most important Parent Workshop of the year.
Last year, Stage 3 students participated in an innovative program in partnership with Heart of the Nation, where they learnt Basic Life Skills and the critical role of using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Nearly everyone in Australia has been affected by someone with heart problems. But do you know what to do if someone's heart suddenly stops? Would you hesitate in fear, or would you take action?
Currently, only 1 in 20 people survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Australia. However, when someone intervenes, even without perfect knowledge, those survival odds significantly increase.
Parent, carers and family members are invited to a very important workshop to learn Basic Life Skills and how to use an AED. Being led by Greg Page (the original yellow wiggle) during the session you will gain the confidence to act in an emergency whilst promoting the importance of CPR and AEDs with your child.
Filming will take place during the session, and we encourage all parents to attend to highlight the importance of Basic Life Skill training and awareness.
MUFFINS W/ MUMS
One of the biggest events of the year is coming soon! Muffins with Mums is being held on Thursday 8 May. Book it in your calendar now to ensure you don’t miss out as we will once again be joined by a special guest or two from the NSW Swifts.
K-2 EASTER HAT PARADE
Planning is already underway for our ‘eggciting’ K-2 Easter Hat Parade. All parents/carers are invited to attend to share in the celebration. It is sure to be an ‘eggcelent’ morning.
VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS
The provision of quality education relies, not only on the quality of the teaching staff, but also on the quality of the resources, which we use to educate the children. We are fortunate to have an enthusiastic, talented and committed teaching staff and while they are keen to use the best resources available, they are well aware of the current economic climate and the hardships many families are experiencing.
The school has a voluntary contribution charter that was sent out to all families earlier in the year. Please note that these will be the only voluntary fees parents will be asked to pay. I thank the numerous parents that have already paid towards these fees and encourage all our parents to support this contribution. My guarantee is that every last dollar of all money raised will go directly back into your child’s education thus ensuring that our students are provided with the very best learning opportunity and resources. The staff and students of Jasper Rd are always humbled by your generosity and amazing support.

Principal
Each fortnight we will send you instructions or a link to a "How to" guide from School Bytes. This fortnight is all about how to explain an absent .
Lost Property
After 8 weeks there is already lost property in the school. These items include jumpers, hats, lunch boxes, plastic containers and water bottles. We ask all parents and carers to ensure that all items are labelled with your child’s name. Also, please encourage your child to search for their lost items in the lost property bin outside, near the sick bay entrance.Any unclaimed items will be disposed of at the end of term.
SC – LIVING SKILLS – FOOD PREPARATIONS
Throughout term one in Life Skills, SC have learnt about food preparation.
Before we got into the kitchen, we discussed kitchen safety and healthy eating. We recognised different kitchen utensils and practised setting a table and table manners. When we got into the kitchen, we made jelly, sandwiches and fruit salad. SC were so excited to go on an excursion on our school bus to Woolworths. We purchased items on our shopping list for our 'special lunch' where we put all of our learning together. At our special lunch, we ate the meal we went shopping for and prepared, sitting at a nicely set table while using our table manners!
We have developed essential life skills, healthy eating habits, and a love for cooking.
You can ask for help with all of these things at home now:
Making a snack
Helping when adults are cooking (measuring, mixing, getting utensils and ingredients ready)
Washing fruit
Make a shopping list
Go shopping and scan items at the checkout
Setting the table
And hopefully use their table manners!
Premier’s Reading Challenge
We have had an amazing start to the 2025 Premier’s Reading Challenge. Although the challenge only started three weeks ago, 36 students have already completed the challenge. Don’t worry though if you have not completed the challenge yet. It runs to the 22nd August. A huge congratulations to the following students.

Autumn has come and we are halfway through the term. I hope this finds you enjoying the cooler mornings and evenings. We have been having fun on Tuesdays in the Lego Club for Year 1 students. This is a chance for children to connect with other children and let their creative juices run wild.
What are some of the programs that chaplaincy program can offer, you might ask?
Seasons for Growth is a small group education program that supports children and young people in developing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to understand and respond well to experiences of change, loss, and grief.
Seasons for Growth supports children and young people who have experienced change and loss, including, although not limited to friendship changes; family separation; loss or death of someone they care about; loss of a pet; relocation and forced migration; living away in out of home care; physical or mental illness; or impacts of war, terrorism or pandemics. We suggest that children and young people impacted by bereavement wait 6-12 months before participating in a Seasons for Growth program.
If you would like more information you can go to https://www.mackillopseasons.org.au or email the school if you think your child needs to participate.
Another program that is offered is ‘Brave’ adapted from brave4you.psy.uq.edu.au. This program supports children dealing with anxiety symptoms for Years 3-6. It helps children recognize feelings and body signs associated with anxiety, learn how to manage the associated behaviour and overcome fears through helpful thinking and good decision-making for life.
If you are looking for something to listen to regarding cyber safety, I have discovered the fathering project and found a podcast about an app that has been created by Bec Nguyen for parents to use to educate and foster healthy and safeguarding online behaviours.
Canteen Payments
May we ask if you are paying cash for your child's order or sending spending money, where possible please send coins or smaller value notes. We have limited change available and struggle to change large notes of a morning.
FlexiSchools is a cashless option where canteen orders can be placed each day or even days/weeks in advance. This removes the worry of lost change or forgetting to hand in the order. Ordering can be done for any item on our menu including ice blocks.
If you have placed a recess order, please let your child/ren know to join the "Express Line" at the canteen to collect the order.
Lunch orders are delivered to the classroom, however, if you have ordered any of the following items, please ask your
child/ren to collect them from the "Express Line" at the canteen:
Noodles
Ice Blocks
Jelly
Changes or Enquiries for Canteen Orders
Should you need to change or cancel your child's canteen order, we kindly request that instead of contacting the canteen or school directly, please reach out to our Healthy Canteens Office, where multiple staff members are available to assist you promptly. Contacting the school or canteen can disrupt lunch preparation and experience delays in communication.
Contact Details:
Office Phone: 02 9836 2270 or 0405 219 242
Timing: Please make any changes before 10:30 am.
SMS Service: You may also use our SMS service to cancel an order. Simply text us with the following details:
School Name
Child's Name & Class
We will process the cancellation and send you a confirmation SMS.
Important Note: We regret we are unable to hold orders. Instead, cancelled orders will result in funds returning to your FlexiSchools account. This policy ensures clarity, especially in cases of delayed student returns or changes in onsite staff.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. By following these guidelines, we aim to enhance efficiency and minimise disruptions for all involved parties. Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
