Over the past two weeks we have celebrated student academic success with our Multicultural Public Speaking finals and the Stage 2 and 3 Spelling Bee’s. The quality of speeches has been outstanding and adjudicating has not been easy. It is always inspiring to hear our young students speak with such confidence and deliver well thought out speeches with intonation and voice projection. Congratulations to our winners:
Stage 2 Multicultural Public Speaking Winners – Neeraj N and Jeyden N
Stage 2 Hills Public Speaking Winners – Amelia D and Kaylie Q
Stage 3 Multicultural Public Speaking Winners – Yash T and Sania D
Stage 3 Hills Public Speaking Winners - Anahita S and Hajin J
I would also like to congratulate our Spelling Bee winners Harry C (Stage 2) and Prioska S (Stage 3). Both students spelt some very difficult words on their way to being crowned stage champions.
ART DISPLAY
Congratulations to our ‘Art on Canvas’ students that have once again displayed their fantastic art works outside the hall. They have been using different media this term in creating artworks on Tea Pots, Donuts and Birds. Art on Canvas runs every Friday afternoon in the hall and is still accepting enrolments.
PETS IN SCHOOLS
Please be advised that under the Companion Animals Act 1998 (NSW), Section 14, pets including dogs are prohibited on school grounds unless the principal grants permission. All dogs should remain outside the school grounds including during after school activities, picking up from After School Care and on weekends.

K-2 ATHLETICS
Congratulations to every child that participated in the K-2 carnival yesterday. It was a fantastic day with every child trying their hardest. If your child is interested in participating in holiday programs, please see the information below.
MAGIC OF JACK DANIELS
Jack Daniels is an internationally renowned award winning illusionist and we are proud to say a Jasper Road father. Jacks performances have been seen worldwide and are a truly unique experience combining theatrical Magic and Grand Scale Illusion beyond compare.
His shows are guaranteed to have any audience transfixed, astounded and begging to know "how does he do it?!" He will leave you spellbound. He will make you question reality. But most of all, he will make you a believer. Jack is touring his brand-new show on Friday 11 July in Chatswood. Tickets are now available online.
DEBATING
Debating develops essential skills such as critical thinking, public speaking, research, teamwork and active listening. Students represent their schools in local and state-wide competitions. At Jasper Road we have two debating teams, led by a group of teachers. Over the last fortnight, our debaters have been proudly representing the school in debates against Winston Hills PS and Mathew Pearce PS. They have further speeches coming up and we wish them all the best as they practice and prepare
EDUCATION WEEK – SAVE THE DATE
PARKING
Council’s Compliance Officers enforce the kiss and drop rules at our school. When it comes to the safety of our students, drivers found breaking the law will be met with zero tolerance. When an offence is detected, you will be fined.
Did you know? Kiss and Drop zones around schools operate under "No Parking" rules, allowing a maximum stop time of 2 minutes for dropping off or picking up children. During this time, the driver must remain in or within 3 meters of their vehicle. These zones are designed to facilitate quick and safe vehicle stops for parents and carers.

ATTENDANCE
As we progress through the school year, we want to take a moment to highlight the importance of regular school attendance for your child’s educational journey. Consistent attendance is crucial not only for academic achievement but also for social development and emotional well-being.
Why Attendance Matters
Research consistently shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve higher grades, develop better social skills, and have a greater chance of graduating. Each day in the classroom provides valuable learning experiences that contribute to your child's overall development.
The Ripple Effect of Absenteeism
When students miss school, they miss out on essential lessons, classroom discussions, and collaborative projects. This can lead to gaps in understanding and may hinder their confidence and motivation. Furthermore, consistent absence can impact the classroom dynamic, as teachers and peers rely on each student’s participation and contributions.
Tips for Supporting Regular Attendance
Establish a Routine: Create a consistent daily routine that includes time for homework, relaxation, and sleep. A well-structured schedule can help students feel more prepared and less anxious about school.
Communicate: Talk to your child about the importance of attending school and encourage them to share any concerns they may have about their school experience.
Plan Ahead: Schedule vacations and appointments outside of school hours whenever possible. If your child must miss school, inform the teacher in advance and arrange for make-up work.
Celebrate Attendance: Recognise and celebrate your child’s commitment to attending school regularly. Positive reinforcement can motivate them to maintain good attendance.
Seek Support: If your child is struggling with attending school, don’t hesitate to reach out to teachers or school counsellors. They can provide resources and support to address any underlying issues.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
We appreciate the ongoing support you provide to your children and our school community. By working together, we can foster a culture of regular attendance that promotes success for every student.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
YEAR 4 WESTWORDS
Year 4 students as part of their library lessons this term have been working with author James Roy on creating a variety of stories using different stimulus each session. This week the students worked around the theme of running late to school. Students wrote entertaining stories in small groups of three and shared their writing with their peers. 4R also shared their stories with students from Palmers Island Public School. As part of the lessons this week the students also edited a piece that had been written to show them the processes a writer goes through. In re- writing the paragraph the students were working on the following elements:
building tension
adding detail
contrast between characters
using conversation
adding mystery
using the technique of foreshadowing
Lots of useful techniques are shared each week and we look forward to reading the students' work.

Each fortnight we will send you instructions or a link to a "How to" guide from School Bytes. This fortnight is all about how to book a parent-teacher interview.
Lost Property
There is an overwhelming amount of lost property in the school. These items include jumpers, hats, lunch boxes, plastic containers and water bottles. We ask all parents and carers to ensure that all items are labelled with your child’s name. Also, please encourage your child to search for their lost items in the lost property bin outside, near the sick bay entrance.
We are into winter, whether it's getting children off to sports, or having food in the slow cooker ready for you when you come home. This season, the sun still shines during the days despite the cold mornings.
Part of my role is to ensure the sun is shining on our students and to start that process I need to build trust with students. This can be done by playing Uno, Jenga, or Lego when they are in the chaplaincy program or in the playground. It takes time to create a space where a student feels safe to talk about whatever might be on their mind.
As adults, we can be very stretched with everything we have to do with working, appointments, grocery shopping and trying to fit everything in our lives, including spending time with the big and little humans we live with. It's important to make time to spend with your daughter or son to invest and build a solid relationship with them.
One of the greatest gifts you can give a child is time. Looking into their eyes, listening to them, being interested and being present with them as they share their adventures of the day. If you have this as a rhythm, it’s a time when trust can be built, and open questions can be asked. Listening to their stories and what they have done at school is a great way to understand what life is like for them. It creates a strong foundation for when children enter adolescence. The gift of time is precious as you make regular time with your daughter or son to go out and do something with them. Whether it's McDonald's for an ice cream, going to the park, watching a movie, cooking together or making something in the garage. Maybe it's even shooting some hoops down at the local basketball court.
We have had Lego for Year 2 this term, where any Year 2 student can come and make something with Lego. On the other days, I am out using hula hoops, catching cups, skipping ropes, and when it's not windy the parachute comes out. You might also find some students playing Uno on the artificial grass.
Premier’s Reading Challenge:
We have now reached 138 students who have completed the challenge. We are well on our way to beating our record of 286 students. Keep up all the fantastic work everyone. But, don’t worry though if you have not completed the challenge yet. It runs to the 22nd August. A huge congratulations to the following students.
Parent Contacting Morning Tea:
Next Tuesday we are hosting a parent contacting morning tea in the library. If anyone is available to help contact some of our new books, that would be greatly appreciated.

In Week 6 students in SD and SC got the opportunity to attend the Western Sydney Wanderers All Abilities Gala Day! What a day of fun for all things soccer! Students built their skills on dribbling, kicking and goal shooting, and even had a go at some tricks! The day ended with a game of teachers vs. students with students getting the win on the last goal! We couldn't have asked for a better day for both the weather and fun! Thank you to the Wanderers for such an amazing day.

Canteen Payments
May we ask if you are paying cash for your child's order or sending spending money, where possible please send coins or smaller value notes. We have limited change available and struggle to change large notes of a morning.
Flexi Schools is a cashless option where canteen orders can be placed each day or even days/weeks in advance. This removes the worry of lost change or forgetting to hand in the order. Ordering can be done for any item on our menu including ice blocks.
If you have placed a recess order, please let your child/ren know to join the "Express Line" at the canteen to collect the order.
Lunch orders are delivered to the classroom, however, if you have ordered any of the following items, please ask your
child/ren to collect them from the "Express Line" at the canteen:
Noodles
Ice Blocks
Jelly
Changes or Enquiries for Canteen Orders
Should you need to change or cancel your child's canteen order, we kindly request that instead of contacting the canteen or school directly, please reach out to our Healthy Canteens Office, where multiple staff members are available to assist you promptly. Contacting the school or canteen can disrupt lunch preparation and experience delays in communication.
Contact Details:
Office Phone: 02 9836 2270 or 0405 219 242
Timing: Please make any changes before 10:30 am.
SMS Service: You may also use our SMS service to cancel an order. Simply text us with the following details:
School Name
Child's Name & Class
We will process the cancellation and send you a confirmation SMS.
Important Note: We regret we are unable to hold orders. Instead, cancelled orders will result in funds returning to your FlexiSchools account. This policy ensures clarity, especially in cases of delayed student returns or changes in onsite staff.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. By following these guidelines, we aim to enhance efficiency and minimise disruptions for all involved parties. Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
