With one week to go it is going to a busy week. Next week we will be celebrating and recognising the following events.

- Thursday – ANZAC Service
- Friday – PSSA Winter Trials
School resumes for Term 2 on WEDNESDAY 30 APRIL
PARENT WORKSHOP
Thank you to parents that participated in our first Parent Workshop earlier this week. As discussed at the session, CPR is an essential skill and your attendance goes a long way in highlighting the importance of Basic Life Skill training and awareness.
We will be running three further sessions throughout the year on Assessment Strategies, Maths and Writing.
MUFFINS W/ MUMS
One of the biggest events of the year is coming soon! Muffins with Mums is being held on Thursday 8 May. Book it in your calendar now to ensure you don’t miss out as we will once again be joined by a special guest or two from the NSW Swifts.
INTERNATIONAL JOINT CLASS
This year the school has built upon its links with Joongdae Elementary School in Korea to form three International Joint Classes. This program is run by the Seoul Metropolitan Board of Education and aims to build partnerships between schools, offering learning and sharing opportunities. This year 2B, 3C and 5R have been involved in the program with their first joint classes being held over the last fortnight. We can’t wait to hear further about their shared experiences.
K-2 EASTER HAT PARADE
Planning is already underway for our ‘eggciting’ K-2 Easter Hat Parade. All parents/carers are invited to attend to share in the celebration. It is sure to be an ‘eggcelent’ morning.
BOOK COVERING
Thank you to the parents and grandparents that assisted with book covering in the library last week. Whether it is 30 minutes or 2 hours, your support is greatly appreciated with over 200 books contacted and ready for borrowing. We will be holding another session next term.
WINTER IS COMING
The start of Term 2 always brings the colder weather. Can I please encourage all families to stock up on school winter uniforms including jumpers and jackets. Remember to include your child’s name on all items. All students will also be expected to be in full Winter uniform for School Photos in Week 1.
Year 2 Korean Language
Once a week for one hour, Year 2 students learn Korean with Mrs.Choi during their Creative and Performing Arts (CaPA) lessons. These engaging sessions support students in reflecting on the heritage, culture, identity, beliefs, and values of others.
Throughout this term, Year 2 students have been enhancing their language skills through a variety of interactive activities that encourage the exchange of ideas, information, and opinions with both their teacher and peers. Their learning objectives include:
Exchanging greetings and farewells while using polite expressions, such as "thank you."
Recognising and counting musical beats in Korean, as well as learning numbers from 0 to 19.
Introducing themselves to classmates and sharing their age.
Describing characters in scenarios as part of their drama activities.
Participating in classroom routines and following simple instructions.
Responding to familiar stories, songs, and rhymes through actions or singing.
Understanding that Korean is one of the many languages spoken in Australia.
Identifying and playing traditional Korean instruments.
This week, I had the pleasure of joining several Year 2 classes for their music lesson, where I witnessed the students skilfully keeping the beat while playing traditional Korean instruments, including the Khwaenggwari, Janggu, Buk, Jing, and Sogo. Their enthusiasm and impressive performances were truly a highlight!
It is always inspiring to see our students actively engage in language learning, which opens their minds to diversity and fosters an appreciation for different cultures. Learning languages not only enhances their ability to connect with the global community but also strengthens foundational literacy skills. Additionally, it promotes intellectual and emotional growth, as well as cultural understanding.
Congratulations Year 2 on your fabulous learning of the Korean Language!
Each fortnight we will send you instructions or a link to a "How to" guide from School Bytes. This fortnight is all about how to View or download student documents or school resources.
Lost Property
After 10 weeks there is already lost property in the school. These items include jumpers, hats, lunch boxes, plastic containers and water bottles. We ask all parents and carers to ensure that all items are labelled with your child’s name. Also, please encourage your child to search for their lost items in the lost property bin outside, near the sick bay entrance. Any unclaimed items will be disposed of at the end of term.
SL Road Safety Walk
SL have been learning about Road Safety in the Life Skills Unit for Term 1. On Wednesday 12th March, 2025, SL enjoyed a Road Safety Walk excursion. They practised safely crossing the road. Pressing the pedestrian crossing light and waiting for the green man before crossing. We also practised safe crossing using: ‘Stop, Look and Listen’ before crossing the road. We practised crossing safely in Balcombe Heights Estate and enjoyed the sights and sunshine on our walk. SL displayed outstanding behaviours whilst out and about and we all enjoyed our excursion.
Premier’s Reading Challenge:
Jasper Road is having an outstanding year so far, with the number of students who have completed the Premier’s Challenge. We have broken all previous records set at the end of Term 1. 65 students have already completed the challenge. Don’t worry though if you have not completed the challenge yet. It runs to the 22nd August. A huge congratulations to the following students.
Parent Contacting Morning Tea:
We had an amazing response to our Parent Contacting Morning Tea. Together, our team of helpers contacted an unbelievable 293 books. Thank you to the parents and grandparents who volunteered their time, enabling students access to these new books. The books are now happily in the hands of our students, being read and enjoyed over and over again, with many having a long waiting list to be loved by other students. I look forward to the next Parent Contacting Morning Tea, which will be taking place in Term 2. Details will be sent out via SchoolBytes next term.

Interschool Chess Challenge:
On Thursday the 27th March, Jasper Road hosted the Interschool Chess Challenge. Students from ten schools, including JRPS, participated in a seven-round Swiss Competition. Students competed against each other throughout the day to see which school would be crowned the champion. Unfortunately, we did not come home with the win, but we were exceptionally proud of how well our students competed and represented our school. Congratulations to all twenty five students who displayed exceptional chess skills, wonderful sportsmanship and outstanding manners all day. Special mention to Elton C. He won the competition for students 8 years and under. Well Done Elton and all of our JRPS Chess Champs.
Don’t forget the JRPS Chess Club is still continuing although the Interschool Chess Challenge has concluded for 2025. If you are interested in learning more about how to play chess or you would like to put your chess skills to the test against other students, we run fun lunchtime chess competitions every week during the two semesters. Our JRPS Chess Club is on every Wednesday lunchtime in the school library. Reminders are put on SchoolBytes every week, so please, make sure you listen to the morning announcements so you don’t miss out.
Remember, your next move is your best move!

Canteen Payments
May we ask if you are paying cash for your child's order or sending spending money, where possible please send coins or smaller value notes. We have limited change available and struggle to change large notes of a morning.
Flexi Schools is a cashless option where canteen orders can be placed each day or even days/weeks in advance. This removes the worry of lost change or forgetting to hand in the order. Ordering can be done for any item on our menu including ice blocks.
If you have placed a recess order, please let your child/ren know to join the "Express Line" at the canteen to collect the order.
Lunch orders are delivered to the classroom, however, if you have ordered any of the following items, please ask your
child/ren to collect them from the "Express Line" at the canteen:
Noodles
Ice Blocks
Jelly
Changes or Enquiries for Canteen Orders
Should you need to change or cancel your child's canteen order, we kindly request that instead of contacting the canteen or school directly, please reach out to our Healthy Canteens Office, where multiple staff members are available to assist you promptly. Contacting the school or canteen can disrupt lunch preparation and experience delays in communication.
Contact Details:
Office Phone: 02 9836 2270 or 0405 219 242
Timing: Please make any changes before 10:30 am.
SMS Service: You may also use our SMS service to cancel an order. Simply text us with the following details:
School Name
Child's Name & Class
We will process the cancellation and send you a confirmation SMS.
Important Note: We regret we are unable to hold orders. Instead, cancelled orders will result in funds returning to your FlexiSchools account. This policy ensures clarity, especially in cases of delayed student returns or changes in onsite staff.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. By following these guidelines, we aim to enhance efficiency and minimise disruptions for all involved parties. Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
ELECTION DAY: Saturday 3 May
The Election Day BBQ and Cake Stall will take place on Saturday 3 May 2025.
Local community members will be coming from near and far to vote at Jasper Road Public School – because they LOVE our BBQ and Cake Stall! This could be the BIGGEST fundraising event of the year! We simply CANNOT do it without YOUR HELP!
So how can you help? You can…
A. Volunteer on Election day - Saturday 3 May - to cook or serve the BBQ or on the cake stall (you can come for an hour or 2 and vote while you are volunteering when its quiet to avoid the queues - that’s clever multitasking!!)
B. Donate homemade foods, cakes and slices on Friday 2 May (more information will come home with your child)
C. Come and support us by voting at JRPS and while you are there: buy something from the food stall and a democracy sausage from the BBQ - you can even donate towards the exciting new proposed Playground for our kids!
D. Encourage all eligible friends, family and acquaintances to vote at JRPS and buy something delicious and donate to support our kids.
E. ALL OF THE ABOVE
Our school events rely on volunteers to be successful, and every dollar raised goes toward improving our kids’ school experience. Even an hour of your time will make a difference! Scan the QR code below to sign up or email Volunteer@JasperRoadPandC.org
Can’t volunteer on the day? You can still contribute by donating items for the cake stall (collected Friday 2 May; more information to come) but also by encouraging all friends, family and acquaintances to come vote at our school and buy or donate something while there.

MOTHER'S DAY STALL
The Mother’s Day Stalls take place during school hours on Wednesday 7 May 2025*.
Students will visit the stall with their classes and will have the opportunity to purchase gifts for their mothers, grandmothers and special people in their lives.
Gifts range from $1 to $8, and we suggest that students bring no more than $10.
For the parents of students visiting the stall for the first time we recommend that students bring their money in a zip lock bag with a note stating who they are purchasing for. This will assist the teachers and volunteers help the students select the perfect gift.
We also ask that students bring a bag to carry their gifts in.
*Please note there will be NO second stall date this year.
Parent Volunteers Needed: we are currently seeking volunteers to be able to run these stalls – we can’t do it without you, so please contact us if you are available to help on Wednesday 7 May.
