Last fortnight I had the opportunity to revisit our sister school Palmers Island Public along with Mrs Murray, Miss Baker and Miss Denning. Over the four days of our visit, we had the opportunity to meet with students, see the local area, talk with parents and most importantly discuss ongoing links and student programs. We look forward to continued links with the school as we forge our Metro/Rural Alliance.
THANKS
Congratulations to the P&C for their efforts and organisation of the Election BBQ. It was great to see so many parent helpers throughout the day with all sausages and cakes sold out.
I would also like to thank the many parents who assisted at the Mother’s Day Stall. The organisation of this stall allows our students to celebrate their loved ones, and we love seeing the smiles on their faces when purchasing.
The collaboration between the P&C and the school is truly appreciated.
ZONE CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to the 47 Jasper Road PS students who attended the Zone Cross Country Carnival at Balcombe Heights Estate last week. All participants put in a huge effort, competing against students from 18 schools across the area.
PARENT WORKSHOP
Our next parent workshop is just around the corner and will be held on Friday 30 May at 8am. During this session, we will be talking all things assessment. Come along, learn about how we assess at Jasper Road. We will also be discussing NAPLAN, including the 2025 and 2026 assessments.
WINTER IS COMING
Term 2 always brings colder weather. Can I please encourage all families to stock up on school winter uniforms including jumpers and jackets. Remember to include your child’s name on all items.
AFTER-SCHOOL ART
Each Friday afternoon, Art on Canvas runs after-school lessons in the hall. These are very well attended and to celebrate our students we will be showcasing their artworks throughout the year. Their rosella artworks are now on display on the noticeboard next to the canteen. Congratulations for such fantastic pieces of art!
ROAD SAFETY
Council’s Compliance Officers enforce parking signs at our school. When it comes to the safety of our students, drivers found breaking the law will be met with zero tolerance. When an offence is detected, you will be fined. Please see the flyer for further details and keep our students safe!

Attendance
As we progress through the school year, we want to take a moment to highlight the importance of regular school attendance for your child’s educational journey. Consistent attendance is crucial not only for academic achievement but also for social development and emotional well-being.
Why Attendance Matters
Research consistently shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve higher grades, develop better social skills, and have a greater chance of graduating. Each day in the classroom provides valuable learning experiences that contribute to your child's overall development.
The Ripple Effect of Absenteeism
When students miss school, they miss out on essential lessons, classroom discussions, and collaborative projects. This can lead to gaps in understanding and may hinder their confidence and motivation. Furthermore, consistent absence can impact the classroom dynamic, as teachers and peers rely on each student’s participation and contributions.
Tips for Supporting Regular Attendance
Establish a Routine: Create a consistent daily routine that includes time for homework, relaxation, and sleep. A well-structured schedule can help students feel more prepared and less anxious about school.
Communicate: Talk to your child about the importance of attending school and encourage them to share any concerns they may have about their school experience.
Plan Ahead: Schedule vacations and appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.
Celebrate Attendance: Recognise and celebrate your child’s commitment to attending school regularly. Positive reinforcement can motivate them to maintain good attendance.
Seek Support: If your child is struggling with attending school, don’t hesitate to reach out to teachers, our Assistant Principals or our Deputy Principals. They can provide support to address any underlying issues.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
We appreciate the ongoing support you provide to your children and our school community. By working together, we can foster a culture of regular attendance that promotes success for every student.
Stage 2 and 3 Spelling Bee
Students in Stage 2 and 3 classes have been busy holding their Class Spelling Bee event. Finalists from each class will then compete later this term in the Stage Spelling Bee, where the overall winners for each stage will then represent Jasper Road PS in the regional finals and, if successful in this round, will go onto compete at the final of the 2025 NSW Premier's Spelling Bee. We wish all students the best at these upcoming events.
Each fortnight we will send you instructions or a link to a "How to" guide from School Bytes. This fortnight is all about how to provide payment or partial payment for an outstanding fee.
Lost Property
There is an overwhelming amount of lost property in the school. These items include jumpers, hats, lunch boxes, plastic containers and water bottles. We ask all parents and carers to ensure that all items are labelled with your child’s name. Also, please encourage your child to search for their lost items in the lost property bin outside, near the sick bay entrance.
Autumn has come, and we are nearly halfway through the term and closer to winter. I hope this finds you enjoying the cooler mornings and evenings. We just started a Lego Club for Year 2 students on Tuesdays, it is a chance for children to connect with other children and let their creative juices run wild.
Coming up in Week 6, we have our Coffee Morning. This term I am very excited to announce that Senior Constable Ethan West, Youth Officer the Hills Police Area Command will be dropping in to have a coffee and chat with parents. This will be before school on Tuesday 3 June from 8.30 - 9.30 am outside the School Canteen.
One program that is offered in the Chaplaincy Program is Social Skills, which is done in a group of two to six students. Sometimes they have activity sheets they fill out, and we play games. Social skills are necessary for us to know and get on with people in life, whether you are a child or an adult. Some of the important skills we work on in the social skills program, whether it’s a Kindy child or a Year 6 student, are how to communicate, which can be either verbal or non-verbal. Being able to manage your feelings inside, so you do not blow up at someone when you are angry, is necessary as you go through life. We also look at how to co-operate, have empathy and manage conflict.
SM – Bike Riding at Sydney Olympic Park
As part of our Life Skills program, SM experienced a leisurely and easy ride through the Bicentennial Park, one of the most iconic parks in Sydney. We rode geared bikes and a tandem bike. It was all fun riding with peers, learning to balance while cycling, looking ahead, keeping our helmets on and reminding ourselves to always keep safe. Before heading back to school, we climbed a tree, rolled down the hill, and hoped we'd get to do it all again sometime soon.

Canteen Payments
May we ask if you are paying cash for your child's order or sending spending money, where possible please send coins or smaller value notes. We have limited change available and struggle to change large notes of a morning.
Flexi Schools is a cashless option where canteen orders can be placed each day or even days/weeks in advance. This removes the worry of lost change or forgetting to hand in the order. Ordering can be done for any item on our menu including ice blocks.
If you have placed a recess order, please let your child/ren know to join the "Express Line" at the canteen to collect the order.
Lunch orders are delivered to the classroom, however, if you have ordered any of the following items, please ask your
child/ren to collect them from the "Express Line" at the canteen:
Noodles
Ice Blocks
Jelly
Changes or Enquiries for Canteen Orders
Should you need to change or cancel your child's canteen order, we kindly request that instead of contacting the canteen or school directly, please reach out to our Healthy Canteens Office, where multiple staff members are available to assist you promptly. Contacting the school or canteen can disrupt lunch preparation and experience delays in communication.
Contact Details:
Office Phone: 02 9836 2270 or 0405 219 242
Timing: Please make any changes before 10:30 am.
SMS Service: You may also use our SMS service to cancel an order. Simply text us with the following details:
School Name
Child's Name & Class
We will process the cancellation and send you a confirmation SMS.
Important Note: We regret we are unable to hold orders. Instead, cancelled orders will result in funds returning to your FlexiSchools account. This policy ensures clarity, especially in cases of delayed student returns or changes in onsite staff.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. By following these guidelines, we aim to enhance efficiency and minimise disruptions for all involved parties. Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
