2022 sees our Zone Athletics Carnival moving to Sydney Olympic Park
with all events being held on one day.

Qualifying Standards and
additional information for the
Beecroft Zone Athletics Carnival

Entry to Zone Athletics:

  • Through your school Athletics Carnival for Beecroft Zone Member Schools.

Age Groups Boys/Girls:

  • Junior: 8-10 Years

  • 11 Years: 11 Years

  • Senior: 12-13 Years

  • Age Races: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13 Years (for 100m only)

Qualifying Standards Track Events:

  • 1500m: Schools can send 2 per division who are faster than the qualifying time of 6:30.00

  • 800m: Schools can send 2 students per division

  • 200m: Schools can send 2 students per division

  • 100m: Schools can send 3 students per Age Race

Qualifying Standards Field Events:

High Jump :
Please note with High Jump, the first jump for competitors is at the qualifying height

  • Junior High Jump Boys/Girls: 1.05cm Schools can send up to 2 students who can exceed the qualifying height

  • 11 Years High Jump Boys/Girls: 1.10cm Schools can send up to 2 students who can exceed the qualifying height

  • Senior High Jump Boys/Girls: 1.20cm Schools can send up to 2 students who can exceed the qualifying height

Shot Put BOYS:

  • Junior Shot Put Boys: 6.00m

  • 11 Years Shot Put Boys: 7.00m

  • Senior Shot Put Boys: 7.25m

Shot Put Girls:

  • Junior Shot Put Girls: 4.85m

  • 11 Years Shot Put Girls: 5.75m

  • Senior Shot Put Girls: 5.75m

Long Jump Boys/Girls:

  • Junior Long Jump Boys/Girls: 3.00m

  • 11 Years Long Jump Boys/Girls 3.20m

  • Senior Long Jump Boys/Girls: 3.30m

Discus Boys/Girls:

  • Junior Discus Boys/Girls: 18m

  • 11 Years Discus Boys/Girls: 18m

  • Senior Discus Boys/Girls: 18m

Relays: 4x100

  • Junior Relay Boys/Girls 8-10 Years

  • Senior Relay Boys/Girls 11-13 years

Finals:

  • The 8 fastest students based on times from the 100m Heats will qualify for the 100m Final (Age Races)

  • The 8 fastest students based on times from the 200m Heats will qualify for the 200m Final

  • All other Track Events are Timed Finals

POINT SCORE (for Age Champion and Champion School)

  • Track Finals – 1st = 8 points, 2nd = 6 points, 3rd = 4 points & 4th = 2 points

  • Track Relay Finals – 1st = 8 points, 2nd = 6 points, 3rd = 4 points & 4th = 2 points

  • Field Events – 1st = 8 points, 2nd = 6 points, 3rd = 4 points & 4th = 2 points

STARTING

  1. Method: The method of starting will be “On your marks, Set – Gun”

  2. Spikes are recommended for track events. Spikes may also be used for Long Jump and High Jump. No spikes are permitted for 800m, 1500m races and shot put.

  3. Competitors must run in enclosed footwear.

  4. FALSE STARTS The competitor causing the first false start will be warned but any competitor

  5. causing a second false start will be disqualified.

RELAYS

  1. Relay batons will be supplied by the association.

  2. Relays shall be run on an oval track (4 x 100m)

  3. A team shall consist of 4 runners and a baton is carried and passed to each runner.

  4. There shall be a 20m CHANGE ZONE in which the baton must be changed. HOWEVER, the person receiving the baton may commence running inside the Zone or up to 10m before the Zone.

  5. A team will be disqualified if any runners do not remain within their allotted lane.

  6. A team will be disqualified if the baton change is not completed inside the change zone.

HIGH JUMP

  1. Competitors shall have up to 3 attempts at a height in rotation. Three successive failures to jump will disqualify that competitor from further jumping.

  2. If there is a tie the competitor with the lowest number of jumps at the height, which the tie occurs, shall be awarded the higher place.

  3. If the tie still remains the competitor with the lowest number of failures throughout the competition shall be awarded the higher place.

LONG JUMP

  1. Each competitor will have three jumps in rotation.

  2. Placings shall be decided according to the best jump from any round.

  3. In the event of a tie, placings shall be decided on the next best jump.

SHOT PUT

  • Junior & 11 Years Shot Put Weight – 2kg

  • Senior 12/13 Years Shot Put Weight – 3kg

  1. Each competitor will have three puts in rotation.

  2. Placings will be decided according to the best put in any round.

  3. In the event of a tie, the next best distance shall decide the placings.

Junior Discus weight – 500gms

11 Years & 12/13 Years Discus Weight – 750gms

  1. Each competitor will have three throws in rotation.

2022 Zone Athletics Carnival Report

Reminders for Monday’s Sydney North Athletics Carnival

  • When you get to the venue, find Beecroft Zone Team Manager Mr Nick Starr near the big orange Beecroft Zone banner.

  • Mr Starr will give out Zone Singlets for students to wear during competition.

  • Fully signed and filled out Sydney North Athletics Permission Notes must be given to the Team Manager before competition.

  • Zone Patches will be awarded when singlets are returned to Mr Starr at the conclusion of your child’s events.

  • Parents will need to drop off and pick up students, there is no organised team bus transport.

  • Students do not need to hang around for the whole day, they can Arrive, Compete and Leave.

  • It is ok to turn up at least 1 hour before their event (to ensure they are on time).
