Zone Trial
Rugby 7s - Girls
Called 23/2/24 & Completed
2024 Zone Girls Rugby 7s Convenor:
Justin Field, Dural PS - 9651 1164
This is not quite yet in the NSWPSSA Handbook, but there is a NSWPSSA State Championship.
Girls who are nominated from Years 5 and 6, by their schools to trial for the Sydney North PSSA Rugby 7s Team must:
Have experience playing Rugby Union (XV or 7s), Rugby League or representative experience in other sports.
Possess an understanding of how to play Rugby 7s.
Be physically fit and athletic – fast, strong, reasonable endurance etc.
Be able to cope with and enjoy the physical contact involved in Rugby 7s (tackling, ball into contact, ruck/maul etc.)
Girls Rugby 7s is open to Girls ONLY, Boys should use the Boys Rugby Union pathway.
Eligibility
13 year old's are not eligible to trial.
10 year old's may trial, however must be signed of as competent by a Level 2 coach (this is not our responsibility to organise and they will not be able to trial without the correct paperwork).
Schools should discuss any 10 year old nominations with Sydney North Convenor, weeks prior to the Trial. This is so we can ensure they are both suitable to trial and understand the paperwork required from them to trial. A great question to ask is would they have this 10 year old girl in their school or local Under 12s Boys Team? As that is the size and power of many 12 Year Old girls who trual. If the answer is no, they probably are not suitable.
ARU Size For Age Guidelines
It was made very clear to the conveners during last years gala day that this will be enforced in future Girls Rugby 7's events. This means that the organisers may measure a girls height and or weight if they believe she might be under or over these guidelines.
A girl cannot be below 143cm tall and 33kg in weight
A girl cannot be above 171cm tall and 75kg in weight
https://app.education.nsw.gov.au/sport/File/5229
Please note that a girl needs to fail both the height and weight guidelines.
This does not impact the majority of the girls who trial. Last year, we had one girl in our team who would have been close to the maximum guidelines (and she is eligible for our program in 2024).
Zone Trial may not be required:
Traditionally we do not get enough nominations for Girls Rugby 7s to hold a Zone trial
Once the nomination process closes, name will either be sent to Sydney North or a Zone Trial will be called.
