SUBJECT SELECTION for DP underway. The preparation quiz and draft are due Jan 14th by the end of the day.
SUBJECT MEET AND GREET with Year 3 students is Jan 14th during mentor time. Ask students your questions! (and you'll hear from a couple of teachers who teach subjects you don't have in the PreDP.
About the first request: It is from this request that we begin to analyze the schedule and even start to see how we need to "lock in" certain blocks. (meaning, which subjects can be offered in parallel to another subject because there aren't students in both groups). Due to some staffing changes and updates to whole school's process timeline, the final request will not be due until much later around week 16. As soon as I know certain blocks seems to be locked in, I can update you so that you are aware as you are thinking about your final requests and any changes you might want to make.
STUDY HALL UPDATE Last I wrote, I mentioned a drop in study hall in the Spring. Instead of a drop-in study hall, we have a plan to put in more structured math support. Stay tuned for updates.
WHEN DO JOKES GO TOO FAR? What do you need to know about the law in terms of offensive behavior? These are typical things that come up amongst high school students both in terms of face to face and online interaction. Our IB counselor Lina Groth will visit your class (half group at a time) to do a workshop with you about this in January.
Reminder to check IB Program Calendar for last day of term, first day of Spring term, etc.
STUDY HALL UPDATE Last I wrote, I mentioned study hall. This is a work in progress and simply stay tuned to know more. It may look different then I originally informed.
EE INTRO JAN 13 and Year 3 shows off their EE. from 0930-1050 and it will be on the schedule.
CAS PROJECT INFO Jan 13 during mentor time.
UNI GUIDANCE during mentor time Jan 21
STUDY HALL UPDATE Thanks to those of you who completed my survey so I could get your feedback. Generally speaking, the theme was that study hall was ineffective as mandatory. Plenty of you did even see the benefit, but didn't appreciate the schedule placement. My plan for Year 3 in Spring is to give targeted study hall to specific students who seem to need it to complete work and/or drop-in hours.
UNIV APPLICATIONS FOR ABROAD? Remember to complete this form because each student's needs are unique. This helps us coordinate your needs.
UCAS APPS deadline Jan 13
COMMON APP (USA) typical deadline Feb 1
INTRO TO EE to Year 2 Monday 13 January: YOU will show off your EE to them! from 1015-1050 and it will be on the schedule. The DP Coordinator will give more information for setting this up.
SUBJECT REPS MEET AND GREET to Year 1. Tues Jan 14. Teachers have nominated specific students to be a subject representative. If that is you, On Jan 14 you will meet Year 1 student in the S aula to answer questions they have about the subjects. This will show on everyone's schedule but it's only for the subject reps and if you are one, you should know it :-)
MOCK EXAM INFO during mentor time from DPC on Jan 21
Alumni Med Student and Bio:
In a Bio lesson they had a visit and lecture from two students who are currently studying medicine at Karolinska. They talked about Tobiasregistret, the Swedish bone marrow registry, to raise awareness about that and about hematological diseases. One of the visiting students, Laura Johansson, is former IB student from Hvitfeldtska!
Renova & DT: On Monday, December 16th, Eric and DP2 DT students went on a field trip to Renova in Sävenäs. This is a "Combined Heat and Power" station in northeast Göteborg, which complimented the theory they are learning at the moment into "Resource Management and Sustainable Production". We all have an important role to contribute towards a circular economy, and now after this trip, the class knows what this means in theory and in practice. Despite the smell, students found the facilities and tour to be very impressive and it was particularly difficult to get them to leave the room where they could watch a massive claw pick up 5 tones of garbage at a time for incineration!
Vis Arts and Louisiana Trip: On November 23rd, students from Hvitfeldtska's "Bild och Form", IB DP 1 and 2 Visual Arts and DP1 IHGR Visual Arts students visited the Louisiana Museum of Art, in Humlaebeck, Denmark. This world-class museum was the setting for collaborative analysis assignments, personal research and overall enjoyment of the amazing settting. From their experience, students will be taking their analyses and applying it to the process of making their own artworks, some of which will soon be on display in the Visual Arts DP2 IA Thesis Exhibition in S Aula. Please come to see it on Thursday, February 20th, from 4-7pm!
Des Tech and Book Display for Library, an in- School CAS activity:
In the Fall of 2024, DP1 DT students worked for the Librarians as clients to re-design book displays for a certain genre. Students learned about the requirmements of the project before exploring CAD modelling options to design a creative way to clarify their genre of choice, and to design a product that will fulfill the functional requirements of a book-display at the same time. They explored online tutorials before making a laser-cut product, which has now been delivered to the Hvitfeldtska Library!
English Literature and Theatre visit:
On November 20, the DP Literature students went to see the play Poison at the Gothenburg English Studio Theater. They also participated in an after-show discussion with the actors.
Economics and Public Goods:
First picture is Group E students while the second pictures presents group F students.
In early November IB23 Economics Students , had an open door lesson where we walked around the school, where students learnt and got to identify five public goods. They used their mobile phones to take notes.
In a following lesson students were put into smaller groups where each student discussed his/her five public goods and students compared their lists and they then collectively as a group made a list of five public goods. We had six smaller groups and each group presented its list. Thereafter, the teacher conducted a series of lessons on government intervention. The latter, connects real world context to the IB Economics Syllabus that students learn in class towards their IB Diploma later on in their education.
