Photo Group 1: These are pictures from IB23's visit to World Heritage Radio Station Grimeton for their Theory of Knowledge course.
Photo Group 2: These are photos from IB22's Chemistry Internal Assessment lab session recently completed.
Photo Group 3: These are photos from an English Literature Outing in IB23. The group had a creative writing outing to the Commonwealth War Memorial at the Kviberg Cemetery. Their “chapters” were made into a booklet (the cover pictured).
Photo Group 4: Kenya Club and Kenya project planning exchange.
From August 20-27, we hosted visitors from Nairobi, Kenya, as part of our Atlas Planning project. The partnered with a school in Nairobi and focused on two main goals: 1) Developing international-mindedness and cultural perspectives; and 2) Removing barriers to learning (a pedagogical goal) and promoting well-being. Our visitors included Principal, Deputy Principal, and Math/Physics teacher, Kanguu and two students.
Since our guests left, the Kenya Club continues and they recently had an online meeting where the students from each school exchanged expereiences about student life in each culture. Topics such as friendship, gender equity, traditions, and embracing cultural differences were discussed. A student from Nairobi wrote a poem about Sweden and shared it!
Lunch lines. A message has gone out to the whole school to only go to lunch as is on each individual's schedule. Friday has been adjusted to make lunch easier to attend, as that day was particularly problematic for many IB students. Hopefully you should see improvement in lunch lines by now.
Economics Conference is happening Oct 19th. If you are interested to join from home, feel free to use this link: https://meet.google.com/cpj-riqf-gmt The Economics Conference is geared first towards our third year IB Economics students. There is a plethora of guest speakers (both in-person and online) and they will be talking about matters relevant not only to our lives, but are also directly related to the curriculum. It is too late to sign up to come in-person but you can join by link if you wish.
Week 44 break is coming up, it starts Oct 28th.
Week 45, Monday morning, is a study at home morning for all. Remember, in the afternoon you may or may not have all your lessons as normal. If even only one is scheduled, you are still expected to attend.
November 13: World Kindness Day How will you celebrate? Check out the link for ideas! To intentionally be aware and act on World Kindness day is to embrace the IB Learner Profile attributes of caring, balanced, reflective, principled...maybe even more!
December 20 is the last day of this term. Reporting progress. IB22 students will get predicted grades. IB23 students will get commentary reports on progress. For more about our assessment practices, see our Assessment Policy.
Class and Program Council All students have gone through a cycle of class and program council and have had a chance to shape the current and future program here at school this fall. "Påverksansråd" for whole-school matters will soon be scheduled and we'll have student representatives attend that as well. This is where students can give feedback about food or other whole-school matters. IB will have its next class and program council session in Spring.
Year 1 students have now met our Study and Career Counselor (SYV) (twice) to start career planning, and, the Student Health Team has also been out to meet the group and remind them of our Plan against discrimination.
November 5th is when we will ramp up support and guidance for the DP Subject Selection requests. Students will be visited during mentor time by me (Principal), the DP Coordinator, and the SYV several times through Fall and Spring. The final subject request will be due by the end of January.
The new PreDP IB Ambassadors will be chosen and announced by the end of this month. Thanks to some students who have already been helping us out, with the Gymnasie-mässa, for example!
The Study and Career Counselor (SYV) has been out to visit the class to talk about International University applications.
The Student Health Team is meeting the group this week to discuss, among other things, what the "Plan against discrimination and offensive treatment" really means, in our daily lives.
Our social counselor and school psychologist will visit the group in a couple of weeks to follow up with the class about their stress levels and how they can increase their own well-being.
CAS: a reminder to be sure to keep up with reflections and evidence. This is how we can verify and ensure each individual student is keeping up with their CAS portfolio.
CAS interviews start later in November during your mentor time.
The DP Coordinator has shared each individual students' planned exam registration. Students were to check for errors, sign and return the document. Note: We will not register students officially for exams until after the final deadline when the EE is due. Students who have not completed and submitted an adequate final EE will not be registered for exams. We expect this not to happen because we have planned in EE writing days to support students to meet the deadline expectations.
The SYV meets the students next week (and throughout the year to make sure they are informed and aware of further education opportunities in general). Students are also expected to do research on their own about University application requirements. If you know you will apply to Int'l University, there is a form to complete on the IB External Web (accessed via links from Vklass) and under the tab "University Support".
Students will soon (in week 43) get their EE feedback so they can move onto the next stage of completing their final copy of the EE. EE final is due Nov 3, a Sunday. DPC then meets students to review registrations Nov 5. Note: If you submitted your EE late without permission from the teacher, according to our policy, you have waived your right to the feedback. Teachers are only allowed to give feedback on one copy of the EE and the next version submitted must be the final.
Study hall, starting Nov 19 you will see some mandatory study hall sessions for all. This is to support you in all of the upcoming IA deadlines both before and after the winter break.
