Study and Career Counselor:
The Study and Career Counselor's role (SYV in Swedish, which is an abbreviation we use here as well) is to help our students on their way to the next stage in their life, which can be career or education guidance. Our SYV has a plan to go out to meet each class from Year 1 to Year 3 several times in a school year and there is also a Google Classroom they can join to see resources or information posted. Beyond that, students are encouraged to book time with the SYV to discuss any specific questions they have. The SYV will support the student to find, read, and interpret information.
The SYV for the IB program is:
Tina Öberg
Phone: 031-367 30 80 | Text message: 0703-344 259
E-post: tina.oberg@educ.goteborg.se or via v-class messaging

DP Coordinator:
The DP Coordinator is integral in the DP subject request process and advising about which subjects are best for certain educational tracks. You can speak to the DP Coordinator about specialized subjects you may need in Sweden or abroad and whether your subject request is appropriate both in terms of your prior knowledge and future goals.
The DP Coordinator requests from students a list of Universities to which they are applying. The DPC then ensures those Universities are set to get your results digitally after IB results come out in July. This can only ever be done once, has a deadline, and it's done prior to the end of the exam session. The DPC informs students about all of this and gives the deadline.
Note for some Universities, there are extra steps required in the application, such as official legalisaton or an apostille stamp. We as a school can't know all schools and all details but the candidates themselves must find out and inform us before the March deadline.
The DPC for the IB Diploma is:
Ingrid White Åshammar
E-post: ingrid.white.ashammar@educ.goteborg.se (or via v-class)
IB Principal:
The IB Principal sets the policies and routines for the DP subject request and placement process, and ensures the program adheres to all IB Standards and Practices to the highest level possible. The Principal makes a final decision regarding placement, in cases where such a decision is required. The Principal also collaborates closely with the SYV, DPC, teachers and students (usually through Program Council) to refine policies and routines as needed.
The IB Principal is:
Krista M. Baker

What we expect of you as a student:
To take responsibility for planning your future career and educational paths. This is done through research, reflection, goal setting, engagement in school activities designed to support the process, and in the seeking of help as needed.
To independently research careers and University programs, as well as requirements for University applications and associated deadlines.
To write, reflect on, and revise your own statements (if required for applications), thus transferring skills you have learned in your Group 1 and 2 subjects. Your letter should reflect you, your own voice, and show your own capability in written communication.
To ask for help or references, in good time, if and when you need it.
To complete the University Support Form (Int'l applications) so we can support you in your process.
Hvitfeldtska Gymnasiet is a public school run by a political board of education. Students who come to us may be used to a variety of school forms and thus may also be used to varying levels of service and support when it comes to preparing applications for Universities.
Students make applications in Year 3, but there is preparatory work in Year 1 and 2, depending on what the student's further education goals are. The following is not all-inclusive, but covers the most common points students and their families should be aware of. All week numbers mentioned below are approximate.

How to obtain a teacher reference /recommendation letter
At least a month prior to when you need it:
Politely ask one teacher if they can kindly provide you a reference/recommendation letter.
Note: holidays are not working weeks.
Write a personal statement/essay and revise it.
Find your IB2 spring report card.
Give your personal statement/essay draft (as in 2 above) and your report card (as in 3 above) to the teacher writing your reference.
Allow at least two weeks for the reference to be written.
If you need another letter and you ask another teacher. Inform the new teacher who wrote the first letter. They will want to coordinate their efforts.
UCAS advise on personal statements:
