This newsletter is a short update and won't be separated into year levels like normal.
The teaching team kicked off the new year during the study days with a focus on Removal of Barriers to Learning. Each IB teacher is working with this concept in their own way, refining and developing their practices iteratively.
KUDOS to our Psychology teacher, Marit, who applied for and got money from Atlas to start a new international project with Kenya. . In week 7 Roxanne, Joel, Marit, and Cecilia S. will be on their way to Kenya start a new collaboration and project. We are looking forward to details when they get back! Kenyan representatives will come to us in the Spring and we look forward to hosting them. Let the Kenya Project CAS group know if you are interested to be part of the group!
KUDOS again to Marit, who has arranged for two lecturers from University of Gothenburg and Astra Zeneca respectively to come to Hvitfeldtska and share their expertise about Animal research and ethics, similarly to last year. This lecture is for IB22 Psychology students.
25 Jan and 31 Jan 1610-1730 IB21 students: some of you will be asked to attend a study hall in order to complete an official IB examination component (draft or final, depending on the subject). If you were asked by your teacher to attend, your attendance will be taken during that time. This is a supportive measure for you we hope you appreciate! If you do not come to the session to make up the work which is due, you may be in breach of one or more of our policies which could lead to no longer being registered in the relevant course.
9 Jan until 11 June are the dates for this term, but the 3rd year students have graduation 4 June. See the IB Program Calendar for more details on those kinds of things.
30 Jan: IB23 final final subject request on Jan 30th. I hope you find the process and guidance helpful until now.
Travis Trimmer, his wife and family, have welcomed a new baby girl named Oda. Welcome baby Oda and congratulations to you and your family Travis!
Christophe Tarkowski will substitute for all Travis' lessons over the next 2 weeks, EXCEPT IB21 History. Note Christophe is also substituting for Johan's IB Economics until further notice. Note this Thursday lessons for IB22 Eng Lang Lit and IB22 History will be cancelled.
IB21 History substitute: Zaher will substitute for the 2 weeks Travis is at home with the new baby.
Johan/Economics: Johan is back at 50% and we are happy to see you here again Johan! The 50% will be taught in the Swedish national program.
Johan's mentees: remember that you can contact me (Krista) as your mentee. For CAS interviews and other "homeroom time" activities, we have assigned your to another teacher. See your Vklass messages about it.
Surita/Math: will return from sick leave this Thursday. We're so happy you have recovered and look forward to seeing you back Surita!
IB3 students especially: it is expected and it is your responsibility to check Vklass and respond to your teachers or leadership who may have written to you. Actually, this is true for all students, but currently IB3 have some official IB summative assessments to submit and it is through Vklass messages where we support and remind them.
