This lesson will cover leads for the student's Real or Fake paragraphs.
After this lesson you should have the ability to write a lead that draws in your audience.
M.U.G.S
Writers want to catch their audience's attention right from the start, otherwise a reader may abandon their piece. Writers use leads to draw their audience into their piece.
In this lesson we want to create an explicit list of techniques that you may use when writing your paragraphs. We will revisit the mentor texts under the document camera and work to clearly articulate a strategy illustrated by the texts.
Some Techniques for Leads:
Ask a question (One Pricey Potty, The Boy Who Thought He Was a Kangaroo)
Use a super interesting fact (Students Strike Over Homework, Dogs are Natural Born Cheerleaders, Cow Backpacks Catch Burps)
Give an opinion (Full Stomach Causes Sneezing, Why Sloths Are So Slow)
Create curiosity (Rhino Rambles Across College Campus, Bizarre Bird Baffles Scientist)
Encourage a strong emotion (Popular Fruit Full of Bugs, Valentines Bug Out)
As a class we will brainstorm some possible leads for the article about Student Choice Days.
Create three different leads for one of your own Real or Fake paragraphs.
Once you have completed this activity continue working on your Real or Fake paragraphs.
