Students will be able to plan and write a persuasive paragraph from their own opinion statements.
Pyramid & Idioms
Making the Most of Our Reasons
Brainstorm:
Push yourself to think of as many reasons as you can to support your opinion
Then select the strongest, most convincing ones
Plan the order:
Strongest first
Strongest last
Weakest in the middle
This will be an opportunity to write persuasive paragraphs using your own opinion statements that you generated last week from your brainstormed topics.
Organize your paragraph using the planner.
If students have not completed the topics to opinion statements work for Lesson 6, they should go back and generate at least 3 opinion statements before moving on to today's task.
Use this checklist to check your work over when you have finished writing.
I have written in complete sentences.
My ideas explain and support my opinion.
My reasons are all different
I have used different types of supports.
I have used transition words.
I have used punctuation and capitalization correctly.
I have used my best spelling.
You can use one of these prompts if struggling to come up with one of your own opinion statements.
If you complete a paragraph, start working on your second.
Students will share their writing and see how their work might have differed from their classmates.
