The Department of Professional Development and Digital Learning supports educators across the district by creating meaningful, accessible, and job-embedded learning experiences that strengthen professional practice and improve outcomes for students.
Our work goes beyond offering training sessions. We connect teachers, school leaders, coaches, and district teams to learning opportunities, resources, tools, and ongoing support designed to move professional learning into practice.

We provide multiple pathways for educators to access professional learning based on their needs, schedules, and roles, including:
On-site school-based professional learning

Asynchronous and self-paced learning

Coaching, modeling, and implementation support
Digital learning and technology integration
Vendor-led curriculum and program training

Connecting Educators to Learning
We serve as a bridge between district priorities, state initiatives, instructional resources, and professional learning opportunities. Our team helps educators navigate and access relevant LDOE learning opportunities, vendor-supported training, district-developed professional learning, and digital resources that align to their professional needs.

We believe professional learning should result in more than new information—it should lead to stronger practice.
Our learning experiences are grounded in NIET's Five Steps for Effective Learning and are intentionally designed to help participants:
Identify what students and educators need.
Develop new knowledge and skills.
See strong practice modeled and connected to real work.
Apply, practice, and refine new learning.
Examine evidence, reflect, and determine next steps.
Whenever possible, participants leave professional learning with something they can use, implement, or apply immediately in their classroom, school, or professional role.

Our department continues to expand differentiated learning opportunities across the educator career continuum. Current initiatives include targeted support for:
New Teachers
Providing early-career educators with practical learning, resources, collaboration, and ongoing support as they strengthen classroom systems, instructional practice, curriculum implementation, and student-centered decision making.
Teacher Collaboration
Developing educators' capacity to learn with and from one another through collaborative planning, data analysis, instructional problem solving, Communities of Practice, and job-embedded professional learning.
Digital Learning
Supporting educators in the purposeful use of digital tools and resources to enhance instruction, collaboration, productivity, and student learning.
Supporting Learning Across the District
Supporting Learning Across the District
Professional learning is a shared responsibility. In addition to facilitating our own programs, we partner with academic departments, district teams, school leaders, vendors, and other stakeholders as they design and deliver learning through their areas of expertise.
Our Professional Development Center serves as a districtwide learning space where teams can gather, collaborate, facilitate training, and advance important initiatives.
Through these partnerships, we help create a more coherent professional learning system—one that connects district priorities, content expertise, instructional practice, and educator development.
