Co-Teaching
We TeachTogether
We TeachTogether
Professional learning is strengthened when educators have opportunities to apply new learning with support.
The Department of Professional Development uses co-teaching as a practice-based coaching strategy in which the teacher and coach share responsibility for instruction while intentionally developing teacher knowledge, skill, and confidence. We also prepare teacher leaders, coaches, and school leaders to use co-teaching strategically as part of a gradual release of support.
Within a professional learning system, co-teaching helps educators move from understanding and observation to supported implementation.
Learn It → See It → Plan It → Teach It Together → Teach It Independently
Co-teaching provides immediate opportunities to practice instructional moves, respond to students, examine evidence, and receive targeted support within the authentic classroom environment.
The ultimate goal is not continued dependence on the coach. It is increased teacher capacity and increasingly independent implementation of effective, standards-aligned instruction.
