Professional growth requires more than experience. It requires educators to intentionally examine experience and determine what they will do differently as a result.
The Department of Professional Development uses reflection to help educators connect professional actions, evidence, and student outcomes. We also develop coaches, teacher leaders, facilitators, and school leaders to facilitate reflective conversations that move beyond describing what happened to understanding why it happened and what should happen next.
Reflection helps complete the professional learning cycle.
Implement → Examine Evidence → Reflect → Adjust → Reapply
Effective reflection allows educators to identify strengths, challenge assumptions, examine the impact of instructional or leadership decisions, and select meaningful next steps for improvement.
When reflection is embedded throughout professional learning, educators become increasingly able to monitor and strengthen their own practice. In this way, reflection supports the ultimate goal of professional development: continuous improvement that becomes part of how educators work every day.
