Learning From Practice Together

Professional learning grows stronger when educators have opportunities to study effective practice together.

The Department of Professional Development uses co-observation to help educators examine instruction through a shared, evidence-based lens. Coaches, teacher leaders, facilitators, and school leaders are also developed to facilitate co-observation experiences that promote professional dialogue, instructional clarity, and transfer of learning.

Within a professional learning system, co-observation allows educators to connect professional learning to authentic examples of teaching and learning.

Identify a Focus → Observe Together → Gather Evidence → Analyze → Apply

Rather than evaluating the person being observed, participants study specific instructional practices, teacher actions, student responses, and evidence of learning.

Co-observation creates shared language and shared understanding across classrooms and schools. Most importantly, it helps educators answer the question:

“What can we learn from this practice that will strengthen our own?”
