What is Google Classroom?
Google Classroom is an online, digital work management platform that most teachers in Grade K through 5 will be using to post updates, create assignments, collect work, and deliver feedback to the students.
The app will come preloaded on the district-issued iPad.
Open up the App & Log In with Google Credentials
Students may have already been invited to Classrooms, they will just have to click join.
Assignment: Students will read the prompt or directions and submit a document, picture, video, etc. to the teacher when it is complete.
Quiz Assignment: Students will fill out a Google Form for formative assessment. Please remember that nothing is grading during this time.
Question: Students may be asked to answer a question and respond to other classmates. This is very similar to a discussion board.
Material: These are posted resources for students. This could be an article, a link to another site, a video, or just something that the teacher found helpful for student. There will be nothing to submit here
There are some extra steps when editing a Google Doc on the iPad. Students will have to open it in Google Classroom, then use the arrow tool to open up in Docs, and finally press the blue pencil in the bottom corner to edit.
There are some extra steps when editing a Google Slide on the iPad. Students will have to open it in Google Classroom, then use the arrow tool to open up in Slides app so they can now edit
Google Classroom has built in annotation tools that students can utilize to markup PDFs and any other type of document with ease. Pens, Markers, Highlights, and Text Boxes are all available to the students right inside the app!
Students also have a built in scanner in their Files App. They can use this to scan printed documents at home and upload those to Seesaw/Google Classroom rather than taking a picture which may be difficult to read.
Sometimes students will accidentally click the X and delete the file before they even open it. Students can easily retrieve that file by following these quick and easy steps.
These new Fill In PDFs will allow you simply type your answers in rather than annotate and create text boxes. Using these simple steps in the video will help you be successful!
Tip 1 - If you want to see exactly what students are doing inside the classroom sit next to them while they work.
Tip 2 - Ask your child's teacher to invite you to the classroom as a guardian. Once invited, you may select a daily or weekly summary of your child's activities.
Missing Work—Work not turned in when the summary was sent.
Upcoming Work—Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails).
Class Activities—Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers.
Nope. Many teachers at the secondary level were already using Google Classroom in their classroom before school closures. However, if the teacher wasn't utilizing this platform, they have added the students manually to their classroom. All the child has to do is visit the site or app and click Join or Accept!
While teachers will be giving feedback on the assignments submitted and some may even come as a "score" if using Google Forms or something similar, these assignments are not graded in terms of going to PowerSchool or being reported on a report card.
All Google Usernames follow the same format: first initial of their first name, last name, last two digits of their graduation year followed by @eastpennsd.org. For example, If James Smith is in second grade, his username is jsmith30@eastpennsd.org.
For passwords, please contact your child's teacher and they will be able to lead you in the right direction. Students often think of their passwords as the nickname. So if you suggest that to your child, they may remember it. It is a combination of both numbers and letters.
