Reed Landry: To Sleep

To sleep, perchance to dream, ay, there’s the goal,

When only in my dreams do you appear,

And as I rest my heartbeats fill my soul,

Bring fluttering when your sweet voice I hear.

I fall asleep in idle carelessness,

And you arrive for just an inch of time,

Time in the dream compared to dregs much less,

So when I wake I’ve only want sublime.

I may then wait with thrill for night’s long sleep

Yet then you never come, and I’ve no dream.

Now I’m resolved to make the usual leap

From sleep to life where lovely women teem.

There ‘haps I’ll find a you like ‘fore you went,

One who’ll fill my chest with warm contentment.
