Star Readers for the month of August
“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.” – Walt Disney
Reading not only increases the knowledge of a child but also makes him expressive for the outside world. Keeping this in mind, at DPS Lava, students are encouraged to inculcate reading habits. The student who reads the maximum number of books in a month is declared as the Star Reader of the Month. Identifying the star reader of the month aims to motivate children to read as many books as they can within the stipulated time.....and it works!
The Reading Programme has become the hallmark of DPS Lava. The programme keeps students motivated and enables them to practice and improve their reading skills anytime, anywhere!
Level Up! Contains a collection of books that students can complete to automatically advance to the next Learning A-Z Reading Level. Students automatically Level Up! once they listen and read all the books, and pass the comprehension quiz with a score of 80% or higher. To increase the level of reading a student has to complete 50 to 60 books at each level. More and more children are discovering the joy of reading!
These are our Star Readers who have completed the LEVEL UP books!
Congratulations!!!

The Bridge Home
Book Review
Padma Venkatraman was born in India and became an American after living in five countries and working as an oceanographer. She also wrote The Bridge Home (Walter Award, Golden Kite Award, Global Read-Aloud) and A Time to Dance.
The book “The Bridge Home” is a story of Four determined homeless children who make a life for themselves in Padma Venkatraman’s stirring novel.
Life is harsh on the teeming streets of Chennai, India, so when runaway sisters Viji and Rukku arrive, their prospects look grim. Very quickly, eleven-year-old Viji discovers how vulnerable they are in this uncaring, dangerous world. Fortunately, the girls find shelter and friendship on an abandoned bridge that’s also the hideout of Muthi and Arul, two homeless boys, and the four of them soon form a family of sorts. And while making their living scavenging the city’s trash heaps is the pits, the kids find plenty to take pride in, too. After all, they are now the bosses of themselves and no longer dependent on untrustworthy adults. But when illness strikes, Viji must decide whether to risk seeking help from strangers or to keep holding on to their fragile, hard-fought freedom.
Readers will be captivated by this beautifully written novel about young people who must use their instincts and grit to survive. Padma infuses her story with hope and bravery that will inspire readers.
A must read for all young readers to find their inspirational strength and friendship.
