Field Trip to NEERI
1st and 2nd August 2022
Grades IX, X, XI
At Delhi Public School Lava, we believe in experiential learning, and so a visit to the National Environmental Research Institute (NEERI) was arranged for the students of Grades IX, X and XI on 1st and 2nd August 2022. Students observed and analyzed various experiments and research work that is being done at NEERI.
Dr Parakash Kumbhare, Sr Scientist, guided the students about the various aspects of research and development in the field of science. He explained various scientific concepts using daily life examples
Students were able to see how the institution has worked in the field of air, water, wastewater, waste management, green corridor, etc. Students also explored the “Harit Sangrahalaya” where pilot-scale models of different inventions were placed. They also saw the working in Water Technology and Management division, Air Pollution Control Division and Energy and Resource Management division.
It was indeed a great learning experience for the students.

Educator - Chemistry
I had always passed down the road, seeing the gate of “NEERI”, and always wondered what it was but never really took time to explore. It was absolutely wonderful to finally get the chance to know what happens in that organization.
The innumerable efforts taken by an organization like NEERI to combat real-world problems really go unnoticed in our community.
We were greeted with an amazing video talking about everything that NEERI has done, along with what they stand for and want to achieve. The video showed us a multitude of their projects, like NEERIZAR - A portable water filter, used during crises and emergencies for clean drinking water. WAYU- a machine set up in multiple cities, aimed to purify the air and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide, especially in cities like Delhi where it is in use in large numbers. NEERDHUR,- a very efficient stove, aimed at increasing the efficiency of fuel consumption and reducing carbon emissions.
We were then taken into a room showcasing models of all the projects listed above, and also models of sewage treatment plants. Dr Prakash Kumbhare explained everything to us in great detail. We were able to relate a lot of it with what we have learnt in the 9th and 10th grades in Chemistry and Biology. These were real-life applications of all that is there in the textbooks.
It was at times, quite overwhelming with all the new information, but they made it very digestible for us to understand.
The entire field trip was amazing and a great learning experience. A much-needed class, but not in class for us 9th and 10th and 11th graders!
