From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents,
Greetings to you!
India celebrated Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, but the true meaning of freedom is lost to so many of us. There are so many things which are taken for granted or we twist the rules to suit our convenience. Nelson Mandela said, “For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” Our responsibility as caregivers to our children is to sensitize them about inequalities and injustices that are prevalent in our society.
Our school’s vision is aligned with this thought “Freedom is the open window through which pours the sunlight of the human spirit and human dignity.” As a school, we have initiated quite a few programmes to inculcate this in our children.
The Equality Club activities address gender inequality, financial inequality and societal inequality. School uniforms are a big equalizer. Celebration of birthday, where the school distributes the sweets to the class, same sweets are given on each one’s birthday. No preferential treatment is given to any child irrespective of the status of the parent.
Inculcating discipline, sensitizing the students about following rules, and making them aware of the consequences are ongoing processes here at school. Being part of Interact Club, PEACE Foundation and Heritage Club the children are exposed to various aspects of our culture and it also gives them an understanding of how they can make a difference.
In my opinion, freedom is not about exercising our rights to do as we please, instead it is an opportunity to do what is right.
