This course analyses the historical-social phases concerning the evolution of mass-communication media through the study and analysis of basic ideas such as writing, communication and media. After the historical analysis, the focus shifts mainly on the modern and contemporary age, exploring critically the most important media-related phenomena such as social media, television, cinema, music, gaming. The course follows the main historical-evolutional phases of the Digital Revolution, and aims at providing critical discussion about today phenomena connected with technology, communication and media productions.
The programme consists of one single module, which grants 6 credits.
Successful students will be able to:
Identify the main communication elements in a multimedia environment
Perform a critical analysis of the way it operates and of how the multimedia elements that compose it are involved in the narration
Develop personal communication based on the narrative, technological and multimedia contexts
A general, introductory section is devoted to understanding the basic multimedia and online communication techniques, through the in-depth analysis of theoretical contributions and case studies
The following section aims at developing the understanding of platforms, technologies and basic techniques of multimedia and online communication, through individual and group practice
The final section is based on the production of small multimedia communication projects that make use of the previously acquired tools and skills
The programme focuses on theoretical courses.
