APPROACH
Theoretical/project based
Two are the main goals of this course: providing the basic elements of the audio-visual language through an accurate analysis of narrative techniques and strategies in the contemporary audio-visual production, and developing theoretical-practical skills in order to produce scripts based on logics and forms of audio-visual narration. A further goal of this course is to introduce the students into production dynamics and teach them to meet deadlines and keep up to the work pace.
The programme grants 8 credits, divided as follows:
STORYTELLING: 4 CFA
SCREENWRITING FOUNDATIONS: 4 CFA
Successful students will be able to:
Explain the basic structure of a story
Analyse the basic elements of a story
Create an original story based on a given brief
Use the codes that are typical of audio-visual art direction
Write a script using the right format
Conceive efficient dialogues and story elements
STORYTELLING:
Cultural structures at the basis of the narrative world
Element and structures of stories
Storytelling
From novel to movie to series
SCREENWRITING FOUNDATIONS:
Audio-visual language codes
Character creation
Writing techniques
From concept to screenplay

This is a theoretical/project based course.
Students will take part in the following activities, which may vary depending on the development of different projects:
Classroom lectures
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools
Exercises and revisions
Workshops
Individual or group projects
Individual or group study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Graded exercises
Completion of a project

The final grade will result from the weighted average of the programme modules.
