APPROACH
Theoretical/project based
The project lab introduces the students to the practice of motion graphics, 3D modelling and game design, through the learning of the fundamental design tools. The theoretical notions are conveyed through practice (learn by doing). Moreover, the laboratory activity introduces the students to team work, with highly specialized roles as part of complex workflows.
The programme grants 10 credits, divided as follows:
MOTION GRAPHICS FOUNDATIONS: 4 CFA
3D MODELLING FOUNDATIONS: 3 CFA
GAME DESIGN FOUNDATIONS: 3 CFA
Successful students will be able to:
Identify the main techniques and uses of motion graphics
Identify the main techniques and uses of 3D modelling
Identify the main techniques and uses of game design
Carry out a critical analysis of existing projects
Understand individual positions, roles and functions within a work team
MOTION GRAPHICS FOUNDATIONS:
Understanding of general, historical, communicational and functional aspects of motion graphics
Introduction to Adobe After Effects: basic functions, 2D animation, masks, keying, colour correction
3D MODELLING FOUNDATIONS:
Introduction to Autodesk Maya: user interface, polygonal modelling, UV mapping, import-export for Unity
GAME DESIGN FOUNDATIONS:
Understanding of game theory and gamification basics
Introduction to Unity: layouts, assets, prefabs, lighting, shading, physics, UI
This is a theoretical/project based course.
Students will take part in the following activities, which may vary depending on the development of different projects:
Classroom lectures
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools
Exercises and revisions
Workshops
Individual or group projects
Individual or group study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Production of three final projects
Further details about the exams will be provided by the professors.
The final grade will result from the weighted average of the programme modules.
Books and resources might be requested or suggested by the professors.
