LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS
Teachers help students learn, but it doesn't mean that the teachers don't need help. We believe in the saying that "no man is an island," so we need a partner to guide our way and to be our light in the darkness. As a student teacher, I also need help with anything that could show my way in the darkness. In art, value refers to the visible lightness or darkness. In my life, I define value as light in the darkness in which darkness is not the absence of light, but it is the time when I am not knowledgeable enough, and I get lost in making and achieving effective teaching.
During my practice teaching, I realized that my cooperating teacher was my light in the darkness. He provided me lightly by sharing his expertise, skills, and knowledge. He served as my guide to learning everything as a future educator. He is always beside me to lighten up my way with all those struggles on my darkest days.
Along my journey in my practice teaching, my cooperating teacher always gives his time to teach me and guide me in everything I do. He imparted a lot of things, but one of the unforgettable learnings he shared with me is his strategies and techniques for making a lesson plan. He taught me different lesson plans on how to use it in every subject appropriately. He taught me how to incorporate technology into the teaching process. From making a PowerPoint presentation, making a paper tarp, using hyperlinks, setting the projector from the laptop, and adequately connecting audios from the speaker. I am so amazed because, at his age, he is open-minded of being flexible in adopting technology. I realized that as a teacher, I must also be flexible because change is inevitable. As a teacher, I should be open-minded to embrace and apply changes for the sake of my students' learning.
During my internship, I realized that the teacher needs mentoring with all of the above scenarios. It doesn't mean that as a professional teacher, you're entitled because of having someone to mentor you. It means that having a mentor has a positive attitude towards learning and development. It is a crucial way to find mistakes and learn from them. Mentoring helps me to develop more in the field of teaching. I realized that my cooperating teacher did a great value in my life. He provided me with the learning, skills, and most significantly, the importance of being a good teacher. He becomes my inspiration to pursue my dreams in life to be a teacher like him. A teacher that inspires and touches learner's life. Indeed, a light in the darkness.
