Panarayon Elementary School
Panarayon, Bacacay, Albay
A long time ago, the people in this barangay were rich. They owned jars commonly called “tapayan” where they placed their money, jewelry, and other valuable items for safekeeping.
When the Spaniards came, they feared the jars might be stolen. Conscious of this, the people devised the password “Panarayon na yan” as a signal for them to hide the jars the moment they saw the Spaniards coming. Hence, every time the Spaniards passed by, they would say “Panarayon na yan,” hiding the jars. Eventually, the place came to be called Panarayon.
The school site of Panarayon Elementary School was purchased by the barangay council officials who raised funds for the purpose in 1972. The Barangay Captain Rosalio Barcellano, an the councilmen were Jose Bejo, Henry Bataller, Bienvenido Batalla, Pablo Bonaobra, Artemio Biescas and Herman banares.
Today, there are more than four hundred learners in Panarayon Elementary School with thirteen classroom teachers.
