LESSON PLAN SHAPES DIRECTION
An artist will not dare to draw if they are not familiar with the shape. A seaman would not dare to sail without a map. An engineer would not dare to build a house without a plan. The same goes for the teacher. We would not dare to have a lesson without a lesson plan. A lesson plan is a teacher's road map of what learners need to learn and how it will be done effectively during the lesson.
Throughout my teacher internship journey, I realized that a lesson plan is the best companion because it shapes me as a teacher to have a meaningful direction toward my students' learning. It helps me to be organized and confident when delivering the lesson. It provides me with the basis for future planning. I created an appropriate activity to address my learner's diversity with the lesson plan. Also, through the lesson plan, I can think deliberately about my choice of lesson objectives. I can link one activity and the next and the relationship between my current lesson and any of my past or future lesson. It serves as evidence of how effective I am as a teacher in the classroom. The lesson plan makes me an effective teacher; it helps me provide my leaner with quality and achievable learning.
To my fellow student teachers, in creating a lesson plan, we should know the different techniques, strategies, and things we should consider in writing the lesson plan. As future teachers, we should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound in creating our lesson plans. We should also take into consideration the questions that we ask.
The questions should promote the Higher Order Thinking Skills of the learner. Additionally, we should include activities that are appropriate lesson plan which is in line with the level and needs of the learner. A differentiated activity is highly recommended to address the diversity of learners. Motivating activities can also be a compelling point in catching the learners' interest. Integration of technology can be essential to have motivating activities. With technology, we can deliver the lesson effectively and successfully. We need to be responsible enough to use it, just like creating our lesson plan. We should consider our leaner and every circumstance so that we can have a good lesson plan.
I do believe in the saying of Allen Lakein that failing to plan is planning to fail. As a future teacher, I will make sure that I always have or create a lesson plan before entering my classroom, for I realized that achieving one's goal is preparing and planning for it. Having a plan is having a direction; that's why I, as a teacher, should use lesson plans to shape the direction and achieve my goal.
