PREPARATIONS FOR THE VALIDATION
As the world's abrupt change due to the risk of this Covid-19, the lockdowns in response to this pandemic have interrupted schooling with nationwide school closures. Space is an essential aspect that help us be safe and secure. We can't deny that space gives us adjustment and awareness. In almost two years of fighting this pandemic, the educational community has made concerted efforts to reopen the school for limited face-to-face classes including strict implementation of school policies and health protocols. Our school at Panarayon Elementary, headed by the principal, Emilyn C. Quiambao, and all the teachers have decided to apply for validation to conduct a limited face-to-face class. Being one of the student teachers, I am excited because I can experience teaching learners from different grade levels. I'm excited, yet a bit pressured because it will be a challenge for me on how I can support the school in preparing for the validation.
Before the validation, all of us, student interns, teachers, and most especially the principal, are busy preparing the school. As a charcoal artist, I suggested the principal do a mural painting on the school stage that could help the school's readiness and beautification. Luckily, my suggestion was acknowledged and approved by the principal. The principal was thankful to me for my initiative to do a mural painting. As a student intern, I know that it would be a great help for my students. On the first day of my mural painting, I asked permission from my cooperating teacher that I would be doing a mural. He supported me and wishes me good luck.
I realized that I should also help one's interests and talents as a future teacher. With those words, I am motivated to do the work. In fact, like a charcoal artist, it is a challenge for me to do the mural because mural paint is far different from charcoal paint. It is a challenge for me to blend colors since I am using charcoal despite that challenge. As an artist, I have this courage to continue and improve myself in the field of arts. I believe that everything you don't know is something you can learn. And that's my goal to teach my students to love crafts, explore their talents, and go beyond with them. While I was on the first day of my mural painting the principal told me that I should double my time doing the mural because I just had six days to finish it. It was another challenge for me since I am still exploring my skills in mural painting. However, I took those challenges positively. I came up with a solution to ask for help from my co-student intern. Unfortunately, they supported me throughout the mural process. I teach them how to paint, from blending the colors to using different paint brushes. I enjoyed working with them.
While we are painting we share our experiences and lessons in life. With that, I have realized that it's not just the skills that can build in the arts; it also makes human relationships. Through collaborative efforts we finished the mural four days before the deadline. We continue to prepare and secure our school by putting signage, arrows, the printing parental consent, health declaration forms, structuring classrooms, designing the triage, washing facilities, isolation room and many more. All of the efforts are worth doing because our school passed the validation. It's an honor for me to share my talents and skills with Panarayon Elementary School. I have realized that success can be genuinely achieved through perseverance and unity.
To my fellow student teachers, always bear this in your mind every challenge you may face, don't give up. Instead, turn the negative into a positive one. Remember that we are fighters; we fight for the sake of our learners. Learners need us to fight and give hope to them. So never lose hope because fear never build the future, but hope does.
