Additions/Expansions
School additions and expansions in the District of Columbia are managed through a collaboration between the Department of General Services (DGS) and District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), and involve the addition, expansion or renovation of an existing DCPS facility to better align a school's design with its evolving programmatic needs.
A key component of a school addition or expansion project is the establishment and implementation of a Facilities Improvement Team (FIT) during the planning and design phase of the project. Throughout the planning and design phases, the FIT is engaged to provide DCPS and DGS with feedback.
