Modernizations & Major Additions
School modernizations in the District of Columbia are managed through a collaboration between the Department of General Services and the District of Columbia Public Schools. A key component of a school modernization or new construction is the establishment and implementation of a School Improvement Team (SIT) during the planning and construction phase of the modernization. During the planning, design, and construction phases that the school improvement team is engaged, DCPS and DGS will play unique roles:

To lead the programming development, education specifications, community engagement, and design approval of the building.
