Orchestra is an ensemble-based performance class. Students will have the opportunity to play a wide variety of repertoire, ranging from classical to pop music. The course emphasizes both individual skill development and ensemble performance. Throughout the year, students will perform in at least two concerts and one festival. Attendance at all performances is mandatory. Students are expected to practice their parts outside of class to contribute effectively to the ensemble. During rehearsals, the focus will be on musicality and interpreting each piece as the composer intended. The goal is to perform together as a cohesive, expressive ensemble.
How can we express ourselves with fellow musicians and set sustainable goals for our musical growth?
In this unit, students will delve into the essential elements of ensemble playing, intonation mastery, and personal goal setting. Through collaborative exploration, students will learn to blend their individual instrumental voices into a harmonious whole, refining their ability to communicate and synchronize within a group setting. The unit will also focus on the nuances of intonation, training students' ears to recognize and adjust pitch discrepancies for a polished and precise performance. To further enrich their musical journey, students will engage in personal goal setting, developing a clear roadmap for their own growth and improvement throughout the course. Through targeted exercises, practice strategies, and regular self-assessment, students will take ownership of their progress, fostering a sense of agency and accomplishment in their musical pursuits.
