ACTFL Exit level: Novice Mid/ Novice High
Middle School Beginner is an introductory course for students with little or no prior experience with the language. It is designed to build a strong foundation and provide students with opportunities to use the target language from day one. Students at this level use words, phrases, and occasionally sentences to communicate. They can understand and use practiced and memorized familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. Can interact in a limited way for topics that have been practiced in a controlled setting previously, provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
Week 1-5
I can identify the number and dates in a conversation or announcement.
I can identify numbers 0 - 99 in Chinese characters.
I can identify the date in a Chinese calendar.
I can tell the date including year, month, day and weekday.
I can greet and say goodbye.
I can ask and introduce my name to others.
I can ask and tell the date yesterday/ today/ tomorrow.
Week 6 - 12
I can understand and get personal information such as age, birthday, telephone number, living cities from one's self-introduction.
I can understand what information is provided on an ID card.
I can make a brief self-introduction.
I can write my name, age, grade and birtday on a simple form.
I can exchange my personal information with others.
Week 13 -20
I can understand and get personal information such as family, nationality and job from a conversation or presentation.
I can understand simple questions about family in correspondence among an e-pals.
I can understand someone’s profile on a social media site.
I can introduce my family members' natinoality and their jobs.
I can write a brief self-introduction to my new pen-pal.
I can exchange the information about nationality, family and jobs.
Week 21 - 30
I can understand and identify information about one's school life.
I can understand questions about daily schedule in a text message.
I can identify my departure and arrival times from a transportation schedule.
I can talk about my daily schedule on schooldays and weekend.
I can write information about my daily life in a letter, blog, discussion board or email message.
I can ask and tell how to get to a place from where I am.
Week 31 - 40
I can understand and get personal information about appearance from one's description.
I can identify the clothing category from a shopping website.
I can introduce how my dream school uniform is like.
I can exchange preferences with my friends about our likes and dislikes of colours and clothing.
Interpretative

Presentational

Learners present information, concepts, and ideas to inform, explain, persuade, and narrate on a variety of topics using appropriate media.

GOOGLE CLASSROOM - All assignments will be posted in Google Classroom. If you are having trouble locating it, contact the teacher.
RUBRICS AND POLICIES - Once posted here they will not change. However, if a chance is necessary the teacher will inform students well in advance and will clearly mark the changes.
