Welcome to Korean class!
This course enables students to study Korean language and literature through the conceptual understanding of communication, connection, creativity and perspective. The focus of learning Korean is connecting myself and the world around us and to solve problems that we face everyday. We will be appreciating a variety of literary texts and non-literary works throughout the year to explore ideas, think critically, and represent opinions in creative ways.
(Quarter 1)
In Unit 1, students will appreciate and create works by paying attention to rhythm, metaphor, and symbolism. They will write sincere expressions based on their own life experiences. Students will also practice listening by inferring the speaker’s intent and perspective. Additionally, they will develop reading skills to interpret hidden meanings and viewpoints using their background knowledge. Finally, students will compare the characteristics and influences of mass media and personal internet broadcasting.

(Quarter 2)
In Unit 2, students will focus on understanding the development and resolution of conflicts between characters through communication. They will enhance their reading comprehension skills by analyzing various types of conflicts in literature and exploring how these conflicts reflect our communities, society, and culture. Additionally, students will practice effective discussion strategies to deepen their understanding. The unit will also cover unity and coherence in writing, as students develop their skills by composing persuasive essays based on clear arguments and valid evidence drawn from their own experiences.

How can understanding conflict and its resolution deepen our comprehension of stories and real-life situations?

(Quarter 3)
In Unit 3, students will have the opportunity for self-reflection while appreciating literary works that portray human growth. By connecting literature to their own experiences, they will engage in deeper thinking and personal reflection. Students will also develop their essay writing skills by expressing sincere emotions and stories from their lives, aiming to create meaningful and engaging texts for readers. Additionally, they will analyze how vocabulary varies across generations, fields, and media, and cultivate an open and tolerant attitude toward the diverse languages used by different social groups.

(Quarter 4)
In chapter 4, students will focus on effectively summarizing texts by considering both the purpose of reading and the structure of the text. They will engage in writing activities that involve gathering information from multiple sources and presenting it in various formats to communicate clearly and accurately. Moreover, students will explore the fundamental role of language in communication, reflecting deeply on the negative effects of harmful language and the importance of choosing respectful expressions. By understanding others’ feelings and practicing thoughtful language use, they will cultivate the attitudes and skills necessary for respectful and harmonious interactions within society.
