Welcome to Korean class!
This course enables students to study Korean language and literature through the conceptual understanding of communication, connection, creativity and perspective. The focus of learning Korean is connecting myself and the world around us and to solve problems that we face everyday. We will be appreciating a variety of literary texts and non-literary works throughout the year to explore ideas, think critically, and represent opinions in creative ways.
(Quarter 1)
In Unit 1, students will explore various literary works focusing on the perspectives of the narrator or characters. They will learn about different types of point of view and how these perspectives influence the story and shape readers’ understanding. Through this, students will develop a deeper appreciation of how viewpoint affects meaning and emotion in literature. Additionally, students will express their own valuable experiences through creative and personal writing, practicing clear and accurate pronunciation and spelling. The unit will conclude with students writing short essays reflecting on how different points of view reveal characters’ thoughts and feelings.

(Quarter 2)
In Unit 2, students will compare reinterpreted works with their original versions to understand how stories change over time and why authors or creators might make these changes. They will use their background knowledge and reading context to predict content and deepen comprehension. Students will also practice expressing their thoughts, feelings, and experiences using various expressions to enrich their writing. Additionally, they will develop listening skills by evaluating the effectiveness of different media materials and considering how media shapes the way information is received.

How can using background knowledge and context help us better understand and predict a text?
What makes media materials effective, and how can we critically evaluate them?

Students will explore various literary expression methods, such as rhyme, irony, paradox, and satire, which authors use to convey their thoughts and feelings and shape the meaning of their works. Students will appreciate literary works that employ these techniques and learn to recognize how they affect the overall message. Through creative writing activities, students will use diverse expression methods to convey their own thoughts, feelings, and valuable experiences with originality and personality. They will also practice using appropriate explanatory techniques suited to their writing topics, enhancing both their reading comprehension and writing skills.

In this unit, students will learn to organize and present information clearly to highlight key points during presentations. They will develop an appreciation for the value and importance of reading, fostering a habit of regular reading in daily life. Through writing activities, students will practice using diverse expressions to convey their thoughts, feelings, and experiences effectively. Additionally, they will engage in empathetic conversations by understanding and responding appropriately to others’ emotions. The unit also introduces the concept and characteristics of discourse, helping students deepen their communication skills.
