✎ Have a caregiver read aloud each word. Then, tell whether or not each word has a long vowel sound (says its name) or a short vowel sound.

  • brand, cane, scrape, ranch, spend, shred, feed, sweet, twist, ripe, drift, hide, rose, note, stomp, strong, use, scrunch, grunt, huge

✎ Nouns are words that name people, places, and things.

  • Make a list of at least 10 nouns.

  • Then tell a caregiver if each noun on your list names a person, place, or thing.

✎ Read the problem:

  • Maria had 12 toys at the park. Marcus gave her 3 more toys. How many toys does Maria have altogether?

  • raincoat, rainfall, raindrop

✎ A contraction is a shortened form of two words put together with an apostrophe. Read aloud these contractions:

  • won’t, can’t, don’t

✎ Write at least four complete sentences to give facts about an animal. Be sure to use your best handwriting. Draw a picture to go along with your sentences.
