While we were waiting for our order to be made we took a little spin in the area and found Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge. We made a mental note and after driving back, picking up our order, parking at the surfer's beach and devouring it, we decided to take a little walk and explore the park. There is an option of a roughly 1 1/2 mile loop trail or a 3 mile. We chose the shorter and we rewarded with amazing views, sparse crowds, and a glimpse across the Sakonnet. My advice, take a road trip, grab a burger, go on a hike, drive past the Newport mansions and the rocky coast, and make memories.
