Monday, April 1 and Tuesday, April 2
Group 1. Joey, Jayden, Ky
Ky made a delicious honey garlic chicken, Jayden made a risotto with seared chicken and Joey mixed in the mystery veg, asparagus, into his rice for this round. Ky's chicken was so good that I asked him to make a little extra the next day for the other students to taste.
Moving on to the semi-finals - Jayden and Ky
Group 2. Aries, Ekana, Maddix, Alexis
Aries and Maddix both made some deliciously creamy pasta dishes. Alexis showed off some skill and made a rather complex chicken cordon blue. Ekana decided to go the fried chicken route in this very close competition. In the end, the pasta dishes came out on top.

Semi Finals: Wednesday, April 3
Aries, Ky, Maddix, Jayden
This part of the competition is typically when we get our best cooking. The students have a day under their belts cooking on the upperclassmen side of the kitchen and they have worked through the process of developing a plated dish so they have a better idea on what to focus on. This year was no different as their were truly excellent meals by all four. Students had to use a pork chop, potatoes, and create a sauce for their dish.
Aries made a seared pork with mashed potatoes and gravy
Maddix made a seared pork with a pan jus and fondant potatoes
Jayden made seared pork with mashed potatoes and onion and smoked paprika pan gravy
Ky made a pan fried schnitzel with garlic cream and mashed potatoes.
Moving on to the finals....
Maddix and Kyra (sous chef
This year both students had a similar idea, making a variation on a chocolate cake with the addition of a creamy element and raspberry. Ky asked Kim to work with him as his sous chef. They made a delicious and moist layered chocolate cake with a chocoalte mascarpone cream and homemade raspberry jam. Maddix asked Kyra to be his sous chef and they made a delicious flourless chocolate cake with a white chocolate mousse, raspberry coulis and macadamia nut crumble. While Ky and Kim made a delicious dessert, the level of execution, presentation, and contrasting flavor and texture in Maddix and Kyra's dessert won them the trophy. The winner of the 2024 Chopp-ED tournament is Maddix Gonzalez!
