Nearpod works with many different platforms to make sharing and joining a presentation easy. With younger students, ages 5-8, I recommend sharing with a link or through Google Classroom. Sharing with a link allows the students to click on the link, and then enter their name (signing your paper). With older students who are more tech savvy, use whatever method you prefer. With the paid version you have the option of making the lesson student paced or live.
Here are some ways students can join a Nearpod:
Student enter join code at Nearpod.com
Teacher emails Join information to participants
Share even on social media (Parent Night, Welcome to School Night, etc.)
Copy and Paste the link into a Zoom or Teams Chat
Assign through Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams
Use the Remind app
Live Nearpod lessons work well to keep students engaged whether they are face-to-face in a traditional classroom or learning remotely.
Here are a few tips that will help your presentation run smoothly.
Join your own Nearpod as a student using an incognito browser window.
Extend or split your screen so that you can see both the Teacher view and the Student view. (If displaying your screen to the class, only show the Student view.)
Use a variety of slide types. Keep students engaged by having an activity slide at least every third or fourth content slide.
When showing videos with Nearpod, only show on your device when possible. This keeps everyone in the same place during live lessons.
If students will be viewing videos on their own devices, make sure they all have headphones or earbuds to minimize distractions. (Think 20 videos all playing at the same time.)
If creating a lesson to be delivered asynchronously, student paced, use a slide to alert students that a video is coming. Also alert if they need to take notes, or gather materials.
Always preview your presentation from beginning to end in an incognito window to make sure all elements work as expected.
Nearpod has its own channel on YouTube. Use the short instructional videos to build your own knowledge base about Nearpod. Only watch what you need to get started.
Search or browse the Nearpod Zendesk. Take advantage of the well developed Nearpod resources when you visit the Help area.
